How does that work? They didn't even pay 1p in the pound, instead they decided not to pay anything back, and so they started as a brand new club. So how the hell can they claim any right to the titles won by a club that no longer exists? Is it simply because Scottish football is a joke?

Rangers have been well and truly punished. Say what you like about Scottish football, but it's acted on the Rangers fraud. If the English FA had done the same with the first couple of clubs in England that went into administration, we wouldn't have the Pompey situation now. The Scottish FA put the English FA to shame on this

I think today's ruling was about whether they broke league rules with the dodgy payments rather than the administration thing - which is basically a given. The titles have not been stripped from the OLD Rangers, the new Rangers technically were not that club. But they are. Apart from when they aren't. I think it depends whether you are a star/shiny cup or an angry creditor.

When it suits Charles Green they are the original Rangers who lay claim to the 54 league titles won by the old Rangers and when it comes to fines and sanctions they are the new Rangers who can't be punished because they are a different entity.
So in effect the Glaziers could liquidate Manchester United and restart up as ACME United and say they have won 19 league titles!!!!!! even though they were only just incorporated. Should Rangers win the league this season they will have one their first trophy in the first year as a professional club which is good going, maybe they could sew a shiny star on their jersey for next season as a reward.

Why is any Club that is placed into administration allowed to keep their history? Makes no sense as they all reform and continue as before.

So if Pompey ( for example ) go down the tubes and have to start all over again, should they hold on to their FA cup triumph and whatever else ?
At least Rangers bit the bullet and resurrected themselves in SPL 3 at what would have been enormous cost to a very large (massive) club.

There is probably enough in the story to keep the lawyers going for years. Rangers "assets, business and history" were sold to Sevco when their CVA was rejected. The Rangers Football Club PLC entered liquidation on 31 October 2012.
The handling of the TUPE process meanwhile has lead to sixty-seven players launching legal action against Rangers via PFA Scotland, while three players have claimed constructive dismissal. Rangers have made a counter claim for loss of transfer fee revenue from players who refused to join the new company - which has, of course, also been sold on.
In truth most people would accept New Rangers do own the history of Old Rangers. It's the on-going liabilities and responsibilities that are more difficult IMO.

No, that's completely wrong. Rangers were not sent down the leagues for going into administration (I think they were docked 10 points while remaining hopeful they could win the title), they were sent down the leagues for refusing to pay any of their debt, and being liquidated. Pompey, Palace etc were not liquidated. Their creditors agreed to accept the offer that was made, which is completely different to Rangers. If you are liquidated, the old club (and its debts) cease to exist, so the titles stay with the old club, they don't get transferred to the new club.
Rangers should never have been liquidated in the first place, sit tight a few more months and the truth will be revealed... we're nowhere near the end!
