Admittedly one of those was injured yesterday but honestly, failing to start without at least one of those three in any game is just a joke, surely there should be someone in the starting line up each game that can actually run faster than a granny with a zimmer frame on her way to pick up her pension.

I couldn't agree more. The last two away games we have started with no pace in the side at all, Blackburn and Wednesday then held a high line squeezing the midfield with no fear of the ball over the top. It was so obvious it was a little embarrassing that Gus did not see it, and made the same mistake two away games in a row.

Admittedly not as quick as he was but whenever on the picth he still seems to have that knack of skinning the right back and getting a cross in on a regualar basis and with Ulloa in the side who seems to be a striker that can actually head a ball you'd think it might be worthwhile rather than having someone on the wing who gets the ball, turns round and plays a nice tippy tappy pass backwards.

I agree! I honestly think the reason were not that dangerous away is because we don't really have much pace in the team ever.

I'd personally love to start with at least 2 of those away from home.

I saw him run fast against Arsenal. But Jenkinson is also very quick and matched him for pace.

I'm not sure if he's lost pace. I personally think its just league 1 fullbacks are a lot slower and shitter in getting themselves in position than championship defenders are.

Ever since we signed him permanently this seems to be the case, may be down to the leg break.

Also agree with the OP. One thing that frustrates me about Gus is that he is quite negative, preferring not to concede rather than trying to outscore the opponents.

How can you accuse Gus of being negative? At Birmingham we had 2 shots on goal. One was a penalty and the other was a routine save for their goalkeeper. Next you'll be maknig comments about going to a game of football and expecting to be entertained !

I couldn't agree more. After our rennaisance against Wednesday at the Amex, I thought that we would play some of our faster players in this game. Their two lumps at the back looked flatfooted and slow, so why no CMS, Bckley or KLL I'm not sure. If we can take an away defeat, why not try and win it with strikers. Saw the goals on Sky this morning, have to really worry about PIG, does not loo at all good on crosses in a congested box. We need to up our gameplan if we are to consider ourselves contenders for the playoffs.

LuaLua is generally very poor when in the starting line up, how many times do you want to see it? Agree about the other 2 though.

With Barnes actually doing something positive yesterday....getting a ban, hopefully poyet will have to play one of them and I hope we do so well we don't have to suffer any more Barnes for the rest of the season.

Attacking pace destroys sides, ask any (well almost any)manager and they will all say the same thing. I'm not bothered about the age of the back line, defences don't win games, they stop you losing them. Genuine pace is the one thing that defenders hate and fans love. Unfortunately we don't play that way.

I find it hard to fathom how Gus expects us to win a game by fielding a team with nil pace. All of our attacking players are technically good but we are never going to pose a real threat if we don't have at least 1 rapid player. I also can't get my head around the one winger formation, it makes it kind of obvious where our attack is going to come from.
