Potential is an unknown quantity as some realize it and some don't. I remember Alan Mullery saying, when he came here, that Glen Geard had the potential to be an England regular for years to come but he didn't even become a first team regular for us. As Mellotron correctly said El Abd is miles ahead of Dunk and that is for the present not the future.

was it Hartlepool who fielded an ineligable player against us a few years ago and caused Gus to complain that they got let off too lightly?

Bradford have just got away with a fine now after FA orginally kicked them out of FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player. I think Gus was right at the time - you can't field a player who cannot play and let the result stand.

When Dunk is as good on the ground as Greer and is able to show that he is better in the air then I would agree but until then stick with Greer and El Abd,.

This. El abd and Greer for me all day long!

I wouldn't say El-Abd is miles ahead of Dunk, Dunk is perfectly acceptable deputy at present but given the difference in age Dunk is surely going to go on to be a better player, IMO of course.

He will go on to be the best defender at the club, but also I think he's the natural replacement for Greer, a ball playing defender, he's needs to be with an El Abd type, not instead of him.
