I've got The Unthanks Diversions Vol. 3: Songs from the Shipyards on repeat atm. Silver tongued folky sisters waxing lyrical about all things shipbuilding on the Tyne/Tees (not as bad as it sounds and the sleeve notes explain the juxtaposition)

I might check out Caribou's latest offering after the nods on here, as got his last on 2 x vinyl + mp3 coupon, and good it is too. Might have another delve into the vinyl avenue

I have just bought the new Memory Tapes long player which is rather good. In fact it's very good but it's too early to say if it's in my albums of 2013.

I have been listening to Martin Rossiters first album since Gene split up. Its called The Defenestration of St Martin but dont let that put you off. The working title is 'Songs to make grown men cry' and it has some real gems on it. Beautiful piano to accompany the vocals. Think he is now living in Brighton and hope for some live dates soon.

Thought he was the best act that day. Cud were good and The Wedding Present seemed off form for whatever reason. I am not a fan of bands playing albums in their entirety- much prefer a mixed set where you dont know whats coming next.

...are way ahead of the rest for me.

Also enjoyed Django Django, Alt-J, We Are Augustines, Of Monsters and Men and Mark Lanegan in no particular order.

The new Mumford & Sons just sounds to me exactly the same as the first album with the song titles changed. A let down.
Likewise, Hot Chip, The XX and Sigur Ros are good albums, but disappointing compared to their earlier efforts.

Not got the new Spiritualized or Neil Young albums yet, but I guess I should some time soon.

Not heard the Tame Impala one, but I raise an eyebrow at it being so heralded on everyone's list. Saw them live a couple of years ago and found them a bit plodding and so-so. Maybe I should give them another chance.

Some great stuff there- a few that I have not even heard off. Good to see Swans at number one and the inclusion of Darren Hayman's The Violence at twenty. Its easy for December releases to get missed out so pleased to see his album included.
Another positive about this list is you get the reviews to read through too and they are pretty comprehensive.

 

[Albumen]

Both Drowned In Sound and Quietus went for Swans in their top 5. I had the previous album which was marvellous but for some reason couldn't part with £25 for the new one. Guess who regrets that now?
