An attacking midfielder

is what we need to invest in even more than a striker imo. Yesterday, the only players who posed any attacking threat were Buckley, CMS and Orlandi (when he came off the bench). Obviously we have Vicente but we just need to find someone to play just behind CMS as once again he's so isolated and is getting no support a bit like last season. With Bridcutt, Crofts and Hammond all virtually playing as defensive midfielders yesterday it was embarrasing to see that Buckley was our only outlet or just punting it hopefully to CMS. Also we need to finally drop Barnes from the starting 11, offers nothing going forward whatsoever.

We have Matt Sparrow training without a squad number who fulfilled that role in some games last season. Why not give him a number and get him in the team until Vicente returns. He has got to be better than Hammond and Crofts so far.

I agree but I can't see Gus going back on what he said at the start of the season i.e they'll never be in the team again

How about giving Dobbie a run of games there? That is his most effective position and he is proven to ey goals at this level. He got about 6mins yesterday as a centre forward.

Don't be daft, Gus will select Barnes simply to show he is the boss and our input will not sway him from playing the game 'his way'.

Totally. After all that has happened I thought he'd be nailed on to start yesterday. I'm struggling to understand why we bought him, doubt he came cheap and imagine he's at the top end of our pay scale.

Officially bewildered!

I'm guessing it's more about our system than the lack of attacking midfielders......Take Tom Ince for example, Holloway clearly instructs him to turn and attack whenever he gets the ball. Sometimes he'll lose it, sometimes he'll score or set up an attack, I doubt that any of our midfielders are given that sort of license!

Correct. There is is nothing wrong with our players. It's a really good squad. Clearly they are operating under strict instructions and natural games are being suppressed.

Is this not why Gus said the Vincelot and Sparrow had no future as they couldnt adapt to the system. Is it not also why he brought back Croft and bought Dobbie to fulfill that role.

..... and this is the problem (not that he should take any notice of us but GP sure is stubborn)

Dobbie is a great player. Proven at this level and desperately wanted by the Blackpool fans yet he looks nervous and confused, no ball control and not sure where to look for an outlet. Something is not comfortable with him. If it's going to take a dozen games to settle in then the system needs looking at. Noone on the other hand has gone to Cardiff firing on all cylinders right from the start and seemingly playing without a care in the world

Exactly...Noone has had the shackles removed and is flying.....players like Noone, Dobbie, Buckley, Lua Lua etc should be told to just go and play. Dobbie is an experienced player at this level, why buy him and then try to change his style of play or play him out of position. Poyet tries to be too clever imo, the system which worked very well against the likes of Barnsley and Sheffield Weds isn't working against the better teams in this division. The question is, does he have a different one?

I assume this is a piss take???...Buckley, Lualua, Dobbie, Orlandi, Lopez, Vicente(lol), Harley, even Crofts with his goals ratio...Could all be described as attacking midfielders. If you really think we need another, I would love to hear your opinion on Poyet's signings to date.

100% spot on, although I think Barnes would come into his own if that player was found. No assists from midfield, Bennett sorley missed.
