I see the Sky Champions League games are being moved to Wednesdays, meaning...

...the ITV ones are on Tuesdays, when we might possibly be playing on those nights, like the coming Tuesday when we are away to Watford, and Real Madrid v. Man Citeh is on the box, semi gratis :strewth:

This will also have a massive impact on grassroots footy, as floating non-league fans might opt to stay in on Tuesdays and watch the TV, rather than go to some local offerings ???

Greed rears it's ugly head again

The kind of plastics who would opt to miss an Albion game to watch a CL game on the TV, are the same mugs who happily pay a bullseye a month for Sky. So I don't think it will make that much difference.

Doesn't really affect me as I have sky sports so can still catch the games on Wednesdays and record the highlights on Tuesday.

Brighton will always come first.

I can see your point, and perhaps if we were at the Withdean at home on a Tuesday night still I can see a few people making the choice to stay at home instead, but I can't believe anyone who was planning to go to Watford would change their minds because Citeh are on ITV.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how now you'll be able to avoid Andy Townsend because you'll be at the amex on some tuesdays. (Whereas previously the urge to watch any football overruled the desire to avoid him).

As I can't be in two places at once, I will now just have to have Seagulls Player's commentary on in the background while I watch ITV's Champions League coverage. Ho hum.

I'm sure it will have a miniscule effect on normal attendances at higher echelon Tuesday fixtures, but will have a marked effect further down the pyramid, where money is tight, and where younger players won't be brought through as a result. It is a bit greedy of Sky tbf, meaning you will now have to subscribe to Sky to see the CL footy on the Wed. Again we have a 'having their cake and eating it' situation regarding the FA's stated plans to improve the quality of English players coming through. Ho hum...

What's stopping the non-league teams playing on Wednesday instead?

Non-league teams usually play Tuesday, train Thursday, then play Saturday. Playing on Wednesdays, just because Sky have made a change, would upset the apple-cart for probably more than 1000 non-league teams ??? Another 'well thought out' policy from the dimwits at the FA...

I thought this was a knowledgable board, but evidently there appears to be a prevalence of 'BHA tunnel vision', where anything on a wider scale than 'There were no pies...' or 'The bloke who sits next to me is a cock..' is deemed (more) trivial. Shame to think that the wider governance of football can be dismissed along the lines of, 'I don't want to get involved...'

Fair enough, didn't know that. As others have stated, the FA and Sky have only ever been interested in feathering their own nests.

Is the schedule of UEFA Champions league games really the fault of the FA?

And why can't the non-league games change this? Surely they would have played the previous saturday as well (giving them sunday and monday before their next game on the tuesday - no different from having thursday and friday, surely?)?

Moving occasional fixtures happens all that time at all levels due to cup runs, inclement weather. Why is it such a chore to accommodate televised games?

Regarding the first point, the FA would have been consulted and had to agree to the change, as members of UEFA, I would have thought ???

Sorry, but don't understand the second point...

And regarding the third point, non-league teams are made up of mainly part-time players, who have to hold down jobs as well as playing footy, so the Tues.-Thurs.-Sat. regime has been in place for a long time. I've just looked at the upcoming Tuesday fixtures in the Non-League Paper, and there are 136 games (it only appears to go down to Step 5, meaning there are probably about another 200 at Steps 6/7), so roughly 336 fixtures will be affected by the move to put ITV CL footy on a Tuesday. I'm sure floating non-league fans might decide to stay in and watch the TV instead, which, as I say, will have an effect on prospective England players of the future coming through...

I don't believe the English FA would have as much stroke as you seem to credit them with. Considering positions on goal line technology, finances in football etc. the continental and global governing bodies aren't exactly besties with the English FA.

My second point is: The gap between a game on saturday and the following tuesday would be the same as the gap between a game on wednesday and the following saturday.

Yes they currently have a routine for games on tuesday to saturday, but they also have routines for satuday to tuesday - that same routine can be implemented with the new schedule. i.e. "They're not used to playing two games in 4 days/Their training routine isn't set up for two games in four days" isn't an excuse, because they do it when they play saturday followed by a tuesday game.

How many England internationals have worked their way up through the non-league system? How many were spotted at youth level and taken into a league club's youth set up skipping over the non league?

Why are UEFA or the FA getting stick from the OP?

No CL match scheduling has changed. All that's changed is that Sky and ITV have swapped nights for coverage, surely?

If some of our fans are going to watch CL as opposed to come to the Amex I suggest they are fans we don't really need.

ITV chose the Tuesday games, as they wanted Coronation Street to be back on Wednesdays.
