What's the best please?

CM4 is the last game I played and I'm looking for a new one to download. (would rather carry on playing CM4 but it continually crashes in Windows 7 so I need to modernise.)

CM5 is £4.99, any good?

Also I notice FM 2012 is the latest flagship sim game, is this true to the Champ manager format?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Getting bored with quick fire pool.

DO NOT buy Championship Manager.

Football Manager is the current name for the game made by the guys who developed all the classic CM games (including CM4), so that's where you want to be looking for the ultimate experience.

The 01/02 CM is possibly the greatest football manager game ever made

The guys who made it are the same ones who make FM now. What i meant to say was, don't buy any of the new versions of CM. FM is the best by a mile at the moment.

They tweeted that it will be made in mid September due to unforeseen circumstances which sucks

they need to make sure brightons two new star striker signings are on the squad list. Gus told them to hold fire on the release.

DO NOT BUY CHAMP-MAN!

The Guys who invented it sold to EA who then ruined it.

The creators went on to to make football manager which is awesome!

The mobile app of it is very under-whelming but the PC/Mac version is gravy.

Also buy NSS app for smart phones, awesome

You're saying the mobile app of FM is bad? Or CM? I'm in my 11th season on my Mac's FM10 and quite tempted to go handheld with the new one. Thoughts?

If you've got an iPhone/iPad or Android equivalents, you might like FM Handheld. It's less complex and much easier to get into than the full-fat FM games nowadays, but is still excellent. Although in the longer term, you can't do better than Football Manager. It's worth taking the time to get to grips with it, once you get addicted enough to start plotting the tactics for the next match player-by-player whilst looking at your opponent's tactics in the last game, you suddenly realise why all the "over-complicated" complaints are missing the point.

That said, I find there's always something really daunting about starting each new season in modern FMs. I think it's the fact that you can't bash through a season in an afternoon anymore, so once you commit you know you're going to be ignoring more important things for at least a few weeks.

Brightonfan1983: I'm 99.9% sure he's talking about ChampMan, which has been shit ever since Sports Interactive (who created it, and now make FM) and Eidos (who published it, and still do but with a different developer) split. EA have had no involvement though, the facts are broadly like this: Sports Interactive (SI) made CM, and Domark published it. This relationship continued after Domark became, through mergers, Eidos. Eventually SI and Eidos split, with SI keeping the code and the player database, and Eidos keeping the brand. So, FM is the same series old-schoolers mean when they talk about CM 01/02 or whatever. Modern CM is an abomination.

JJJ, yeah I remember that happening. I was torn initially (funny how that brand loyalty thing kicks in) but following the reviews and reading about the two chaps who started the game in the first place, it quickly became a no-brainer. I've always been highly suspicious of games being down-sized and ported as we all love the FM's ridiculous detail, but as a quick-fix I'm wondering whether FM for iPhone is worth £7.

01/02 mate, only option. Trust me. Best version ever.

I think it was you I discussed this with the other week. I could not get the bastard to work, I don't get the whole "mounting" thing, I've downloaded the right software, and got the component parts but.......to me it's like looking at an Ikea wardrobe with the instructions missing, or in gibberish.

Tell you what, I'll bring my laptop tomorrow and you can set it up for me yes?! :D (actually maybe not, I wouldn't ever leave the house with this laptop......too risky :D )
