As I've posted before, imagine you have breakfast at home around 7 and head off to work 8-1. You then head straight to the ground. You leave the ground at 6 and get home at 7. You're away from home for 12 hours - that's why you might want something to eat on a Saturday.

There are numerous reasons why someone might need to eat at the ground on a Saturday beyond 'being a pig'. Only the true thickos fail to understand this point. Are you one of those thickos?

Apologies. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was referring to the majority of fans (and I think the majority are probably fortunate in not having to work on Saturday mornings) who can have lunch before they leave home for the game. Why do these people need to eat at the stadium?

Well if they provide an attractive alternative there would be no reason to. But last night they didn't so my head has been turned. For anybody who has never given it a try, there are LOADS of roads with ample street parking in north Moulsecoomb. What was interesting was that in Lucraft Road there was not a single available space at 6.45pm when I arrived, but by the time I returned to the car at about 10.30pm I counted FOUR cars parked. Clearly plenty of Albion fans have worked out this is the easiest transport option.

No benefit in urging people to park there mate.

I've done it once and yeah it works but urging people to doing it you are clearly trying to be controversial and get some attention

Absolute rubbish. If I wanted to be controversial I'd urge people to try and park their cars in the middle of the pitch or in Paul Barber's space. I wouldn't suggest doing something that clearly HUNDREDS of people already do for every single match.

All I'm saying is, don't feel like The Amex is the only facility around. It's not. Park in Moulsecoomb and use the shops, or go to The Swan for something to eat. There is much better and cheaper stuff within 15 minutes of the stadium.

Everyone knows this.

Urging people to do it may mean in future you struggle for a space or even the talked about restrictions coming in sooner

Cant see the benefit in what you did other than to whip it up

Especially as someone already said the club are watching this thread

Another thing has just crossed my mind. One of the lasses that sells the 50/50 tickets normally gets £20. However last night she was asked if she wanted a signed programme and forgo her £20.

Also the stewards get a meal (pie, sandwich, a bit of fruit) and apparently they do not get the choice or quality they once had when the stadium opened. So my question is are the club or Azure absoultley out of pocket and looking to cut costs, or raise them in any way they can?
I'm told (by a reliable source) that the previous deal for stewards has been radically down-graded, following a review by the new Chief Executive of ways to cut spending.

I hate all this negativity. Sure I will probably get abused like normal but.....

1) food and drink inside entertainment venues is high. It happens everywhere not just at the Amex.

Try going to a music festival for four days and no option (not viable ones unless you like lugging shit loads of food everywhere.) but to pay these prices morning noon and night. I have done plenty. So pretty immune to it now.

2) whatever you say you are not obligated to buy food in the stadium. It's your choice. The game is 90 mins plus 15mins for half time.

You cannot possibly say you have no alternative but to eat/drink in the Amex. I am sure those in the third world would settle for waiting till after the game.

3) the only way to bring prices down is for people to stop buying the stuff.

Don't pay = lower prices.

4) we have a f***ing amazing football stadium to watch football. That's all I ever wanted. If you want a cheep burger f*** off to macdonalds and have one while I enjoy the footy (my only purpose for going.)

They can charge £10 a pint and £20 a pie. I don't give a f*** as long as its not compulsory to buy it. I get to watch football at an amazing football stadium.

This is what we have all been fighting for 15 odd f***ing years. NOT cheep booze and pies.

GET A f***ing GRIP. It really doesn't matter.

ANY customer-focused business needs to worry about that - and do something about it.

If you had then possibly you wouldn't have presented such a short-sighted and self-centred argument (although let's not rule anything out at this point).

The travel plan for getting circa 25'000 people into and away from the AMEX on matchdays depends on encouraging a significant number of spectators to arrive early and stay late. This is will only happen if there is good quality, value for money food and drink available, matched by good service. If there isn't, the vast majority will choose to arrive 20 minutes before kick off and depart immediately on the final whistle. This will then impact on people like yourself. So, in a round-about way, a viable catering operation at the AMEX is just as important to those who don't wish to use it as those who do.

Without it, the transport infrastructure will simply fall over.

Ok.. I did get a bit carried away on point 4. But the two things that have wound me up are

1)people saying they have no option but eat there. When they clearly have an option.

2) people complaining that food/drink cost or food running out (ironic it's often both as no-one wants to buy it but it still runs out) is ruining there match day experience.

Being beaten 3-0 by cheating Southampton referee's ruins my match day experience. Not anything to do with food or drink. But there again. I take a budget with me, when it's gone I come home (assuming the match has finished of course)

But I see your point. If there is money not being spent when it could be. Maybe something needs to be looked at by the company's running it.


But it's not the be all and end all. And should not be treated as such.

Evening all!

I'm away on holiday at the moment so have not kept up to date with this thread.

I'd just like to put in my tuppence worth.

On Saturday I gave my 1901 tickets to my brother and three others,seeing as I was unable to go. I have 4 1901 tickets in the lifestyle Renault lounge, and last season ate there for all bar two games including cup matches. Cost from memory, £152/game.

When my brother and others arrived in the lounge there were no tables set and all eating tables had been removed, he happened to ask the Lounge hostess if they had been removed just for the friendly? Only to be told "No, all those who choose to eat will be shunted off to the BUPA lounge and come back for there drinks if they wish"

The reason for posting this is not a "look at me post" but a feeling of anger that I had not even been told this would be the case! I purposely chose the lounge I did because I know many other members in there and many more people who we have become friendly with. On my return from holiday I was intending to book our meals for all this season, if what I am told is correct they can forget it!!!!!!

Oh, also I have given Azzure the benefit of the doubt on many occassions as the food ranged from S*** to pretty good. The reason I use the food option is purely down to the fact that I see matchdays as my own day out with family and mates.

Sorry to ramble but just hope the club/Azzure see fit to maybe at least mention changes to us first, or kiss goodbye to £4k next season.

Anyway Roll on 18th!!!!!!!!!!!!

If everyone did decide to leave straight after the final whistle instead of hanging around for a beer and a chat the trains could cope with that. It would just mean bigger queues and a longer wait as the trains run at maximum capacity so in a way would the club care about the transport issues as there wouldn't be any for them ?

Bang on.

I spent a good £200 (if not more) on food and drink at the Amex last season. Why should I pay 10% more for a service which has got no better? I spend £500 on a season ticket, and £50 on other Albion merchandise a season. There's an extra £200+ I'm literally willing to chuck at the club, but they are making it increasingly difficult to do so with a crazy 10% increase in prices and appalling service at the kiosks.

You wouldn't accept such price increases or queues at a Supermarket, so why should we have to put up with it in our home? I feel as though a lot of fans tolerated the failings of Azure last season because having somewhere nice to eat and drink was a bit of a novelty. Now that we are bedded down, and the service has remained at an all time low, I get the feeling a lot more fans will go the same way as me and make more of an effort to eat or drink before or after the game.

Mr Barber, please for the love of God fix this. Now.

thickos that couldnt find a place on the way a darn sight cheaper,or make your own,it aint rocket science,i work every day of the bloody week ffs,no excuses,
if you dont like the food/price,either dont eat or eat before. most people sleem for 10 hours and get by without eating,christ thicko or what

Also potentially we could have another 8000 fans this season, I think things worked well last season but we havn't had a game with the increased capacity yet.

To: 'THE LARGE ONE'. May I just say that if they didnt sell any beer or food, I would still love every single minute of my experience at our new home. However...my daughter is a bit gobby like her dad. Many thanks to 't-Soprano' who describes me very well. Despite her young age of 19years she could see how things could improve. There were a lot of egos last season. She once asked what was in the wraps before she served them,only to be verbally abused by the head chef (no longer there). On another occasion she was verbally abused for not getting tables from the East Stand to the 'Profile' lounge quick enough. The bloke in charge 'PUNCHED' a wall in frustration!! I believe he is still there.Had I known this at the time I would have sort this fella out and decked him. As I would of the senior manager(no longer there) who said he would give her a ride home personally after midnight and everyone else could get the bus - OH YEAH!!!

Ok ok yes I will apologise again for getting carried away on point 4. And again I see your point. Yes that is pretty much me arriving 20-30 mins before kick off and straight to the pub after the game.

To those who have arguments like this I see your points. It's those jumping up and down at half time because noddy can't have a hot dog.

Or the "it's ruined my whole day types" who are really annoying.

I guess I have just been round lots of gig/festival venues that I am just hardened to seeing the sort of prices asked for.

If I go to an entertainment venue kiosk I expect to be ripped off. So it really doesn't surprise me.

That's because they can get away it. Once the entertainment is over, most people will bugger off to the pub or go home.

The only problem with The Amex is that they're trying to avoid exactly that, and charging over the odds might be the norm, but it's certainly not going to encourage anyone to stay.
