Proud to be British

It dawned on me last night as I screamed and hollered at the Sir Chris Hoy winning, in a house with just me in it too, that I don't remember the last time the England football team made me feel like that.

I am a complete philistine when it comes to Olympic cycling but the atmosphere and joy from both the fans and the participants and all their back up staff is completely infectious and I was loving it. ( glory hunter I hear you say )

Is it because these guys, and I'm not just talking about the cyclists are so dedicated or is it because we are winning so much and there is a sudden feel good factor?

I dunno but I'd just love my national football team to make me feel like that again. I know it's not the same but I actually turned off the 1st GB football game after 10 mins and didn't bother to watch any more games at all.

I have to confess to having been very vocal and supportive of Andy Murray in the semi final and final too. I would have laid money that would never happen two months ago

There was an article in the German press last week about how multicultural Blighty has been united by the Olympics in a show of national pride unsurpassed in modern times. We truly are a nation under one flag NSC, all creeds, colours and Uncle Spielberg living in harmony for time eternal.

Personally, I'm always proud to be British, Olympics or not.

i've loved these olympics, they seem to have lifted the country , but it wiill go back to how it was before once they're over , i've been english rather than british for a long time , i'd be genuinely interested to know how many scots and welsh were screaming the house down for jessica ennis .

Again, when have they made you feel like that before.

Plenty of people are looking at football in a different light.
But that will all change once the behemoth gets into gear.

All of this emotion and goodwill, will be forgotten by Sept, when something thuggy is done by one racist thug, to another.

I know what they mean. As someone in the press pointed out on 'Super Saturday' the whole country united behind a mixed-race girl, an asylum-seeking immigrant and a ginger kid.

It's been great. One of the things I've enjoyed is being able to support the British athletes 100% and really share in their success as they all seem so genuine and nice. Compare that to the English football team where, yeah, I support them, but there's always that thought at the back of your mind that if we ever win something twats like Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney will become national heroes.

Having seen Usain Bolt celebrating his gold medal at 3am in the morning, with three members of the Swedish handball team, he does win the DOFFED HAT award of the Olympics from me.

I fell very much the same. I gave up 'supporting' the England football team a long time ago because of the knuckle dragging jingoism associated with too many of the followers quite honestly.

This Team GB thing has me almost crying with joy and happiness for people I have never met doing sports I have never watched before. Superb stuff.

I know saffas who were cheering Ennis and Team GB on.

A lot different to the saffa who lived next door to me a few years ago , who invited me round to watch the england v wales rugby with all his saffa mates, who made no effort to disguise their dislike of england.
I asked my " host" if he had welsh ancestry ? he said no so I asked him why he was cheering so loud for wales and seemed so desperate for them to win, an uncomfortable silence followed which I broke by informing them that they had CHOSEN to come and live here, so why didnt they f*** off to wales if they disliked us so much ?
A footnote to this is when the hosts 3 year old fell over and hit his head and got up without crying , one of the saffas informed me in that god awful accent of theirs " see that, thats an african kid that is " obviously he meant as opposed to a european raised kid, they really , realy had a chip on their shoulder about us.
