Vaz Te would be perfect, but would he really want to win promotion all over again

I'm not usually one for posting rumours on here, but there's been a lot of talk amongst Leeds fans 'in the know' that we've had a bid accepted for Becchio. Would certainly fit the bill, but isn't exactly spectacular.

By the way, Paynter's having a trial at Blackpool....

I am not keen on Kitson but his stats certainly look quite good. Since leaving Cambridge he has played in one of the top 2 divisions having scored 74 goals in 253 appearances

............and Gus will be desperate to have him in place in the next few days if he can. We missed out on Ribas so are we now looking at home or is our new target still overseas

Well someone had to start the thread

Favourites at the moment are:

Ross McCormack - looks like he will stay at Leeds

Jordan Rhodes - Fulham in for him and his price has escalated way beyond our means

Christian Stuani - in dispute over his contract with Reggina having been loaned out to Spanish League 2 clubs for the last three seasons. Scores goals and fits the profile but seems to be a complicated set-up to unwrangle. Main promoter of this is Misterspatch - sadly not the most reliable among our rumour mongers

Aaron McLean - probably not an initial target but as the options close could he be worth a punt?

Paul Taylor - very raw Posh striker off the back of one good season. Potentially exciting or potential flash in the pan?

Billy Paynter - not as silly as it sounds maybe. There is still a good striker in there waiting to get out and Gus has found it before. Given his predeliction for ex-players might he try again?

oh and Bobby Zamora - reportedly on £80K a week or thereabouts. We can't afford him or Santa Cruz or any of the other fantasy names. Bridge was a stunning deal with Man City paying his wages but no-one has any need to do a deal like that for a striker to come to the Championship - they are just in way too much demand in the EPL so even if their home club don't want them they are not coming down to us surely.................?

Way too many possibilities for a poll but who would we like to see wearing the stripes for the first game of the season?

The money Gus has spent on defence should have been spent on strikers, our defence and midfield last season were good enough, our strikers were not. There will be alot of 1-1 and 0-0 results in our games this coming season but we will not get promotion because we will not score many goals. We have a great defence though.Gus still has alot to learn his dream of managing in the premier league is a long way off.
To any one that disagrees a weeks wages sais we don`t get promoted this coming season though i would love to be wrong

Oh what, all those players on frees? Yeah all of that money we didn't spend should have been spent on a striker. They were not good enough, if they were better, the strikers would have done better as a result.

we only had one striker most of the time because the rest were covering the midfield and defence........... no way were either anywhere close to good enough defensively or able to move the ball forward quickly or consistently through midfield. The compromises in our playing style began with weak fullbacks and central midfield. We did exceptionally but it was all based on adapting our style of play to compensate for weaknesses rather than playing to our strengths. Are you sure you watched Albion play last season?
