I take 'hard core' to mean how many would we get if it went tits up and we go back down to league 1. I'd say 15,000. The facilities make it a good experience, regardless of the football.

Id say more what would happen if we were lower Div 2. I think we'd bottom out around 8 to 9k although if the pricing was sensible could be more.

Those people that still have nothing better to do than turn up. As previously stated, no matter where we play (gillingham excluded) or who playing for us. Are the hardcore.

Conveniently we just had that experiment. It's about 5000.

Surely the biggest number of JCL's and bandwagon jumpers not real supporters

Surely NOT bandwagon jumpers BUT simply "Goldstonites" who simply couldn't get in at Withdean due to the tiny capacity or if they live, for example,45 miles north west of Brighton, the reality of travelling on a regular basis to Gillingham was just not a goer although I managed a few games I live that far away.started to watch the Albion in '73 so I hope I don't fall into your description as do , I imagine ,probably nearly 20,000 other happy returning fans.

Was 5000, but I am convinced that a fair few of the 'new' supporters will have become addicted for want of a better word. Just like when we were first introduced to the whole live match experience. I have always loved going to football and always will, one thing that has stayed with me since boyhood is that feeling when you finally get to your seat (or on to a terrace back in the day) and first see that green pitch. It still excites me every time. So
I am sure there will be others that have got the buzz like many of us, which in turn will have bumped up our hardcore support.

And that is EXACTLY the first retort from every supporter of these "bigger" clubs. However, if you're canny, and good at turning the wind up key you can get some serious blusterage out of the "season ticket" FACT!

I imagine the follow up response would have the word plastic in it somewhere

I too believe that 5k is the hardcore, it used to be 8k at the Goldstone but the trials and tribulations of Gillingham and Withdean ate away at that. What the long term effects of being shit at the Amex bring, no doubt we'll find out, I just hope it's not anytime soon

Been supporting (ie going to games for more than 1 year) for the last 10 years. Sadly palace probably have a larger hard core support than our 18000 glory hunters.

Now you are taking the p*ss ! - Palace have consistently taken less to away matches than we did in the lower leagues. Look at the "hardcore" that showed up when they faced liquidation - about 200. Being based in South London they have a huge catchment area which means their home attendances are usually above 10k - but their hardcore is pisspoor.

Those that turn up whatever the situation, and don't wait for a shiny new stadium and a few quid before suddenly declaring themselves 'fans'
eg : those that stayed at the Amex until the final whistle on 27th Sept, I'd say they were the Withdean faithful wouldn't you? Proper fans those, and the ones that get the respect of other clubs fans for putting up with the Withdean, proper hard core.

What a load of rubbish

Er, a huge catchment area which just happens to be in London and have all the clubs within it as competition, so we don't do that bad really. Last season was some of the most boring football I've seen at Palace for 30 years or so, and as you lot say our ground is a bit of a sh*t hole, and so our attendances last season reflected our 'hard core'. You don't have anyone to compete with so why the piss poor attendances for so long ? Answer : You don't have a lot of hard core fans.

Gillingham is quite far for a home game and I can only assume you never went to Withdean, where you couldn't buy a ticket at the ground, in midwinter?

You don't actually know what your hardcore is. Try a couple of seasons in League 2

No idea what our hardcore support is, but I suppose it depends how you define it. I'd say I was part of our hard core support - I'm on here all the time, I went to Gillingham occasionally, I was a STH at Withdean for 3 seasons BUT then only went a few games a season because my circumstances changed (kids). Even if our gates tumble to 12,000 in 3 years time if it goes tits up, there will still be a lot more proper fans who aren't going.

As for being 9th best supported club, clearly this isn't true. It's just that we're leading the way in football by offering monthly direct debits which makes it affordable, and play in a magnificent stadium. That's why we have 23,000 STHs.

Ultimately in England there is Man Utd, then there are 4 or 5 supersize clubs, then another 5 or 6 big city clubs, and then a massive clutch of provincial clubs (25 ish, maybe more?) of similar size (from Wolves, Derby & Forest to Swansea & Reading), half of whom could probably claim to be 10th or 11th biggest by some measure or other at any given point in time. Clearly we're one of these clubs, and specifically belong to a group of clubs with no real success since the war, but a decent support and potential - Cardiff, Hull, Plymouth and Bristol City & Brighton are all very similar in this respect.

I'm just happy that we're not a noddy outfit anymore.

There is no point replying to the troll as he has been told this countless times. He just wants to wind us up.

You have six million people living within 15 miles of Palace - with Charlton & Millwall as serious alternatives. The whole population of Sussex is about 1.2 million with a proportion of that living closer to other league clubs, such as Pompey & Palace.

You have not addressed the issue of away fans - I wonder why ?

My dad has supported the Albion since he moved to Brighton when he was about 12. I've supported the Albion since age 10.
The reason my dad didn't take me to watch Brighton before age 10 was because of how crap the Withdean was and that he was worried that it wouldn't be enough to turn me from my glory-hunting ways of the time.

I think the Withdean threw away some of the core fans as well as the fairweather ones. It also hindered some kids becoming fans.
Now we've got the Amex, I think lots of the 'JCLs' are ones who would've supported Brighton for longer if it hadn't been for the crap facilities and experience on offer.

Trying to make out we're a bigger club than Leeds =

Believing that our 'hardcore support' is everyone who bought a season ticket =

Our hardcore support is the 5k who turned up week in, week out at the withdean, wind, sleet or shine. And even more so the ~600 who made regular trips to shitholes like Oldham and Hartlepool year in, year out.

Why should anyone care about how big or small our 'hardcore support' is? As long as we've got the Amex, if you're sitting in the home end I'm quite comfortable with assuming you are as much a Brighton supporter as I am.
