Surely it's not a new governmental policy to get shot of the unwanted.......................... the trick is to shoot them somewhere quiet because once the "news" hits the internet it becomes impossible to control it. Unfortunately the government's newly commissioned internet search device which is based on the technology developed in the hadron collider should have been ready for use before the Olympics but has been delayed by cut backs and inefficiencies in the civil service. The Super Hadron Information Trawl (S.H.I.T.) will identify anti government propoganda and automatically burn the hard drive of computers on which it is held while identifying the originators so that troops can be sent to deal with them once they have finished their primary task in defence of the realm - conducting intimate frisk searches at the Olympic park.

1984 is nearly here folks............. a bit delayed but after all this IS a government project

Is that a knock on your door??

couldn't they have been employed by G4s ? I'm sure their attendance rate couldn't have been much worse that the present bunch ?

I wonder how many people who are deriding addicts and the homeless here would be so blase if it were their kin that fell into such a life. Which is easier than you may think. Your daughter's could become detached, fall in with the wrong people, become addicted, end up prostituting herself for her addiction, living on the street. I'm fairly certain you have no idea how people get into this situation. People on here are first to crash down on paedophiles. Well, a huge proportion of homeless and addicts were victims of sexual abuse in their youth and beyond. But I guess you are too short sighted to see the link. I was homeless for a while and I can tell you, it's not as black and white as you may imagine. It CAN and DOES happen to anyone.

And a disproportianate number of ex armed services personnel are homeless and addicted. they are scum too are they? Why didn't the government offe rthe capable homeless jobs on the Olympics site? Accomodation in return for litter picking, a modest wage and 2 weeks of useful service. Would have been a far better way to handle the situation.

Clueless.

That's not the old guy with the dog who always used to watch Bournemouth games from the old away end even though he was a home fan? Forget the whole story, but I think a steward told me he always got in for free for some reason?

Yep, but I think he was in the away end in the old ground (Brighton beach end ;-)).

Moved into the home end now. He had a f/b page dedicated to him to try and make him a torch bearer!!

Wise words Nibble.

An interesting book is A Life Backwards. It is one persons tale of how they ended up on our streets.

Well said and great idea with the jobs. It's a shame people can be so self centered.
Often I wonder if the extreme views that some hold of the homeless is given to them by their unnecessarily fearful parents in the same way as many other extremist views.

Yes, I remember him. Always used to stand in the corner by the turnstiles. He's been there everytime I've been to Bournemouth since the 1980's, prior to the ground being rebuilt. Must be getting on a bit now?

I'm not fishing, as you put it. The homeless are a huge blight on most towns. There is something very unpleasant about shopping or being on a night out and having people huddled in doorways, constantly asking for money. I pay tax and I contribute to the economy, these people do not, therefore town centres should be how I (and people like me) would prefer them to be. And that's before we think about the effect on businesses who get these dossers on their doorstep. I imagine a small number have a genuine hard luck story and are worthy of sympathy, but so many are just off the rails, drugged up etc. If it was up to me, I'd find a field somewhere and put a roof over it and tell them to head there. If they don't, they're breaking the law and will be arrested.

Ironically it's this attitude that keeps people on the streets and perpetuates the very thing you fear. If there was less of the ignorance you display in the world I guarntee you the situation would improve. I'd like to ask for some statistics of how many are just "off the rails, drugged up.." and indeed what you mean by "etc"? There are plenty of statistics and research to back up the fact that a vast majority of people on the streets are vistims of abuse, suffering from mental health problems, escaping violent relationships, ex-service. I know a lot of people that work with street drinkers and/or addicts or victims of abuse that has put them on the streets and actually, given the right help they have gone on to lead fulfilling lives, contributing to society and are thoroughly decent people. You however are not.
