I'd happily take our scenario of getting a proven premiership footballer in for the season in a less important position (left back is important, but not quite as important as the central spots) and then spend the saved transfer fee, signing on fee and commited 3 years of wages on the midfielder or striker that we are targetting.

There is an argument that for the football we play - full back is THE most important position. And there are players around - like the Burnley lad.

If everyone else in the division was getting in £90k a week players and we wern't, we'd be kicking off the mother of all huffs about our lack of ambition of use of the transfer market.

The moment we actually DO it, it's immoral.

I wouldn't. And the rules are wrong, and make me feel uncomfortable. You can make your own mind up whether it is moral or not.

I don't think that Gus would take a risk on Wayne Bridge if he thought he would not be getting a committed footballer. I think that if this happens it would a great signing for us and leave midfielder and forward to go. The rules are in place and others have used them in the past regarding loans so why shouln't Brighton.

On a personal level I could do with some positive news from the club this week, certainly before the weekend.

Don't like caps. I'd just rather see a fairer distribution of income across the professional game, and wages/transfer fees limited to percentage of turnover, with a maximum ceiling also included. i.e. something like "50% of turnover, or £50m - whichever is lower"

Yep that would work - something like that. Maybe it's too late now tho?

Just be grateful, if this signing comes off, we will have a player who used to play international football for the FOURTH BEST team in the WORLD mate

I think the issue is that we are being "unfairly" subsidised.

But thinking it through, with the game in such a ridiculous situation where players earning £5m a year don't even get to feature in their club's first team squad, I can't see that there many alternatives.

It's an honourable stance but what is really 'fair' in respect to footballers wages in this day and age? The only issue for our club is whether TB reckons it's fair and reasonable to spend 10k a week out of our pot. If it is then I guess it's down to Gus to whether thinks he will be a good fit and whether he can get the best out of him.
The residual 80k a week is Man City's problem, not ours - quite why they agreed those wages in the first place will remain a mystery to most.

Are you saying that Hitzelsperger is signing only if Bridge joins then?

Are you saying that Owen is signing? You're not the first to say it, so maybe there's something in this.

Triggaaar where did you get this supposed quote from me? I know you're only joking, but I never made this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slightly off topic but the Argus was reporting a signing delayed by a day or two by medical practicalities. Are we to assume that this is in additon to wayne Bridge, since this mornings Argus states that the Wayne signing is in the hands of Gus and his powers?

In Dick's bar having a coffee. Will keep my eye out for him. Kuips is here. Not in the bar, in the area. Not the penalty area.

He was in Dicks when I was in there the other day, think he's moved in.

That is rumoured to be Thomas Hitzelsperger I think.

Sorted.

No. Not sorted. We need three more players. One or two centre backs plus two or one midfielders (depending on whether we play 4-3-3 or 3-4-3). I'm thinking Leyton Baines, Gareth Bale and Chris Basham...

It doesn't matter how good they are, just that their names begin with B.

Bristol City signed a yound left back from Manchester City as well, played well on loan for Notts Forest last season. It's a real shame we missed out on Mattock IMO.

In what way are we being unfairly subsidised? Anyone could have made this move for Bridge, and probably some will if he hasn't yet commited to us.

I could see where people made an objection over Bellamy going to Cardiff because City sent him there rather than let a rival have him, so that did have an element you could say was unfair. I don't see what is unfair about this.
