According to reporters watching the training sessions, carroll's finishing has been woeful, hence welbeck starting. If the plan is to play someone who will test the keepers, perhaps carroll isn't the best option at the moment.

shame because in any sort of form he could "monster" either of these keepers (and indeed the defences in general). Defoe's ability to shoot early and accurately may be the answer then. I like Welbeck's honesty but I'm not convinced he has enough about him just yet to seriously harrass defenders.

I think our group is more difficult than we give it credit for. France were a tough proposition and we're the only ones most people were concerned about. But we we have a poor record v Sweden (1 win in 44 years, 13 games, apparently), and Ukraine have home advantage.
