Gus's 1-2-1 meetings with players

I would assume Gus has got a media embargo on the outcome of these, until such time as he has been able to see everyone, and then the Club to issue the first news release. He clearly would want not want players going off twittering saying "i'm in" and "i'm dumped" etc.

So who has authorised the Gary Dicker release today (see albion in the news, dicker ready to soar...)?

i was really hoping Gus 'being harsh' would mean Dicker moving on, leaving a squad space for a proper powerful, creative box to box midfielder.......

So we can't buy a "proper powerful, creative box to box midfielder" without releasing Dicker? Why's that then? Seeing as Harley and Sparrow could also go.

The Dicker article is by SkySports, nothing to do with a press release from the club.

It's interesting though - published TODAY - if it was from an interview in the last day or so, it contains strong hints that Dicker has been told he will be here next season...

Dicker is under contract until the end of next season.

Gus will speak to players who are out of contract first and as is usual with these things, news will leak out very quickly, especially those who are told "no deal" - no embargo I'm sure.

If he then plans to transfer list or "make available" or otherwise invite contracted players to look elsewhere, he will talk to them next and that news will probably be somewhat delayed so that there can be a single press release

I have read the article. Whether Dicker stays or not makes no difference as to whether we will buy a strong box to box player. Dicker has never played that sort of role for the club.

Yup. What's the betting we see a few "gutted" tweets over the next few days?

Re: Dicker, his comments still sound like someone who has been told they ARE wanted at the club for next season (i.e. not transfer listed), otherwise surely he would play it safe and say something along the lines of:

"I know the gaffer wants to have a sit down with all the lads, will take it from there, keep working hard etc, etc."

He's talking as if he will DEFINITELY be there first day of pre-season, no question. I reckon he's been told he's in Gus's plans for next year.

Perhaps Poyets rates Dicker and thats all that counts! With only Navarro and Vicente having contracts that expire its going to be a difficult one for Poyet as some players could choose not to leave, so that will eat up some of the playing budget. Harley has 2 more years to run on his contract, so he could just hang around being paid but never playing!!

To be fair that is what he has been doing so far, even when on the pitch.

spot on

Don't think Sparrow will be as fortunate and Navs, who is out of contract, will probably be told that he is free to look elsewhere but that if he doesn't get himself a better deal by July we will offer him a further twelve months on the same terms.

Pah, why can't Gus have some 3885 - to-ones with the players, allowing us to sit in and really say what we think of them, bringing tears to their eyes and making them begin to hate all the plebs they priorly believed to be purely supportive?

I'd be glad for Dicker to stay. His wages won't be high enough to suddenly open a huge gap in our transfer budget to be filled. I wouldn't think he will be first choice, but he would be handy to keep if he lives up to his pledge of returning with a Thoreseque strength to him.

Not surprised, Gus' comments the other day strongly suggested that he wouldn't be getting a contract, at least not yet. He might still depending who comes and goes and obviously whether he takes up any other offer. Never thought I'd say it but he's unlucky if he doesn't get another year here.

What is it that Poyet sees in Sparrow and Dicker , they are 3rd division players.

To be fair, Dicker was a SUPERB League One player last season, so you'd think he has the potential to be at least a "good enough" Championship player.

I'm guessing your argument would be that we need more than that, which could be valid.

Gus has made it clear he rates Dicker, even if many on here don't ( including myself) so why is everyone so surprised he is staying. He was rushed back into the side after injury which told us what Gus was thinking.
