I think some people need to RAISE their expectations of next season

As a direct response to the other thread talking about lowering expectations, below are my reasons why this is defnintely not the right way to go.

All this talk of lowering expectations is absolute nonsense.

The only way to possibly improve at anything ever in the world ever is to achieve what you can, and then do everything in your power to better yourself the next time you do that thing.

This applies to running marathons, running businesses, running the NHS or running Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.

I would absolutely hate to be somebody who just thinks "well this is my lot in life, I need to be realistic and not strive for anything better"

FFS how would the majority of you feel if Tony and Gus came out in a press conference and said "well next season we are just going to try and not do worse than we did last season; however we expect we will as football is tough. The fans need to lower their expectations"

People would be in uproar about this, and rightly so.

Get a grip people, we need to to better next season than we did this season, or next season is an abject failure. Simple as that.

Self-righteous pub bore DRIVEL.

Because what is written on an internet messageboard is the biggest factor in what BHAFC achieve next season isn't it?

Spot on...

The lack of ambition by some on here is beyond belief, is clearly NOT shared by Mr Bloom (thank you Tony) and, if we don't (at least) make the play-offs next season, I am pretty certain Gus would find the exit door (his choice)... that is the reality we face, so everyone (new and long-standing fans, the Board, the Management, the players) need to get behind a promotion push...

7 or below is a FAILURE... wake up and smell the coffee naysayers...

I think what the OP was trying to say before he was right royally booted from behind was, that if the likes of Swansea, Norwich, Reading and to a lesser degree Southampton can win promotion with no superstars, and a reasonable budget, then there is no reason why we cannot either.

OK so we overachieved this year. What is wrong with that?

As somebody else has already mentioned, had we won promotion again would we have declined the invitation to the Premier League party saying 'Sorry we are not ready yet!'

Would we hell! We would have gone up, enjoyed the ride while it lasted and then if we had come back down we also would have had a huge financial windfall.

Why would we be wanting to go up? Beyond me!

Hopefully they might leave

What an utterly ridiculous thing to say. How the hell is the club supposed to evolve and progress without attracting new support? What are you saying? Only withdean season ticket holders should be allowed to support the club. That's an exceptionally short sighted opinion to hold.

Not really when you hear what some have to say it would be better if they were replaced with fans who understand football.

I think you're missing the point entirely. Of course everyone involved with the club ways us to win every game and get promoted. But in reality that isn't going to happen. And when it doesn't that isn't a failure, it's all part and parcel of the natural progression of the club.

Where currently going through the most incredible revolution in the clubs history. Just get on board, enjoy it- and don't shit yourself when we don't get automatic next season.

Not really the point. Next season we start from scratch again with zero points, the same as everyon else, and it will be just as hard to get to this position again - possibly haerder as we were on the back of a winning, successful season. Of course you aim high, but you also have to set realistic expectations. If GP said we'll only be satisfied with promotion, a lot of people are going to be disspointed if we didn't do it. There aree many big clubs in this division, it's no cake-walk.

P.S. I don't see many people in the NHS trying to improve things - especially if the unions are involved.

True... and TB made it quite clear that HE thought it was stupid for anyone to think we could choose when we go up (when we were in the play-off positions towards the end of the season)...

It's a board designed for discussing all things BHAFC.

If you have nothing constructive to add feel free to not read it.

Did I say we should go for auto? No!

I've supported us long enough to know we can make it, whereas YOU have missed the point due to your 'glass half-full mentality'... wake-up!

If you aim for the stars you might just hit the moon.

Nothing wrong with having high aspirations mate.

Sorry but that's daft ... do these people who don't understand football have a label on them saying when they first went to a B&HA game? If new people showing up know nothing about football then, following your logic, no new people should show up and the game goes the way of ancient species and simply disappears

And if GP says we'll be promoted, lose one game and people will be clamouring for his head. You have to keep some sort of perspective and realism.

Realistically, we have a good chance of hitting at least the top 6 next season... there, I've said it...

Of course we should take the chance if we get it, but we shouldn't think next season is an abject failure if we don't make the playoffs, and sack the management. We're not quite in the same position as the four clubs you mention; Southampton and Norwich had good Championship level squads in League One and were always going to do well. Swansea and Reading spent a few years building a top Championship squad before they mounted their promotion challenges. At the start of this year we had mostly a League One squad and we can't replace that whole squad with a Champ/Prem-ready squad over the course of one or even to seasons very easily.

I think you're missing the point entirely. Of course everyone involved with the club ways us to win every game and get promoted. But in reality that isn't going to happen. And when it doesn't that isn't a failure, it's all part and parcel of the natural progression of the club.
