I've got a mate who's a Burnely fan and he's told me that apparently Austin's not happy up north and wants a move down south. If this is true, surely we should go for him? Tall, quick, good with his feet, can hold the ball, can play off a bigger guy and SCORES GOALS! What does everyone else think??

Think he would be a useful addition, alongside A.N.Other new striker, CMS and Barnes.

He'd be a nice addition to the squad, though that's all I think he would be in all honesty.

I'm hoping that Gus has something (someone?) already in mind for this summer anyway, he's been talking about signings a fair bit so he must have an idea or two already surely?

£2m for a technically unproven striker at this level. Don't get me wrong, I rate him, but if we're serious about going up then someone with Prem or more Champ expreience is more likely. Not sure who though.

Are you able to identify his exact placing in the league ? I find this feature useful.

Not really sure what you mean. I see Austin as being an improved version of Sam Vokes. Which is a start, but still not really what we need. Austin hasn't ever played as a lone striker, at Swindon he had the lethal and generally brilliant Billy Paynter doing all the grunt work, he was on hand to tap in the numerous brilliant flick ons he received from the big man, and at Burnley he's played off players like Jay Rodriguez, who is unbelievably special. He is a good striker and will score goals, but I would rather we went down the route of finding ourselves a very clever, savvy, old striker with experience. I'm not sure if there's been a thread about such a striker though.

He got 16 goals in 29 starts, for a mid table championship side, in his first season in the division.
He's 22.

And some people think he'd be an "ok" addition, or isn't proven at this level.

Christ wept, I dread to think who some people want us to be looking at signing this summer. He's got a child I believe and all his family live down South so wouldn't be suprising.

£2 million ish, compared to what we paid for CMS who is much older, and FAR less proven at this level is hardly expensive, given Austin has scored twice as many goals, and this is CMS' second stint in this league.

Interesting that - isn't that a better rate than Zamora managed in his first season in the Championship with us as well? This division is much better than that one was too. Think he got 14 in 29 or something.

Fair enough, fantastic post.

Agreed 100%. He also dislocated his shoulder this season and since returning has been playing with some device that holds it in place I believe! Doesn't seem to have affected his performance too much. Very good player at this level and would certainly enhance our options going forward.
