Burgess Hill is what I would imagine pergatory to be like. A desert of boring houses, boring pubs, boring shops. I did three years and couldn't get back to Brighton quickly enough. Do not consider it unless you are over 50...

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
IVe lived in B Hill all my life which is now 40 years, And like most of the sensible responses would agree that B Hill is absolutely fine.

There are areas I wouldnt want to live sure like every town, but in general its pretty good.

The redevelopment of the town when it finally happens will be a real boost.

If you want to be near the train stations that does limit your options somewhat.

If you need any advice on areas of town etc PM me and I will gladly advice.

Good luck.

Whereas I could not think of anything worse than living or bringing my young family up in Brighton.

Brighton is considered one of the best places in the UK to raise children, so multi-cultural and diverse,

where as BH, theres just a lot of track suits, and a lot of shitty racer cars, and a lot of fast food places...

Boring By Sea
If at all possible stick with Hove. Its near the sea, next to Brighton and entertains some great pubs and a county cricket ground.

Yes, obviously that's all Burgess Hill has got going for it.

Candidate for daftest statement on NSC ever.
You must have lived a very sheltered life Marshy.

BTW, the 'traditional' name for BH is 'Bu**ers Hole', and that from a resident in the 1970's. Half the comments here relate to how easy it is to get out of (A23, train station etc). Speaks for itself.

It was also known as "Burglar Bells" by us who grew up in Haywards Heath.

Still, it's not a bad place to live, especially if like me you don't like "city" life.

Serious question:

Have you ever lived in Burgess Hill, and what do you think it's missing to be considered a decent place to live?

To be honest, looking back at what I have previously posted, I have no right to slate where people live its just an opinion, so I do apologise for that...

I live in Brighton, commute to work in Burgess Hill and I'm judging my opinion on what I see on a day to day basis which is a lot of face food places, a lot of stupid f***ing loud shitty cars, and a lot of people branded under the stereotype "Chav" i hate using the word, but I cant think of anything else what best describes that type of person. Obviously I only see a small part of what Burgess Hill does have to offer, but that's what I make my judgement on.

When I travel to other places in the UK I compare everywhere to Brighton, and frankly no where has come close, not even Manchester, Liverpool, West Country etc, just cant compete with Brighton. I love this City too much, fun, exciting, different from any other place in the UK as it just has this "quirky" feel about it.

I don't consider it a bad place to live, but compared to Brighton, I cant see any reason why you would want to move. Obviously house prices are cheaper, but I think spending that extra is defiantly worth it.

Fair play.

If you only see the people during normal working hours then you are seeing the "great unwashed" aspect that every town has and as they have no jobs congregate on the town centre.

I couldn't live in Brighton, I'm just not cut out for city life, although I do love the city.

Wivlesfield station is there but does it actually come under Wivlesfield, I wouldn't think so as Wivlesfield postcode is RH17. The Watermill Pub in Worlds End is RH15 as is the rest of Burgess Hill. So I would say technically Worlds End is in Burgess Hill at least as far as Royal Mail are concerned.,.
