Don't see a problem with it tbh. Ribbing his rival's is not a bad thing and I can see the funny side of it from his perspective as they effectively wasted their month away.

If England get to the FINAL of Euro 2012, will that be a 'waste of a month away' then? ???

A better comparison would be if we lost to Stevenage in the FA Cup final whist dropping out of the play offs.

No it wouldn't. That's a shit analogy.

Ivory Coast play in the African Cup Of Nations, because they are in, er, Africa. Just because some of the nations in it, are not as traditionally strong as a load of European countries, doesn't make the competition any less important (to those competing).

If you watched that game, the Toures and the rest of the Ivory Coast players were GUTTED at the end. Not, "Ah bugger, that was a bit of a waste of time" gutted, but properly, properly GUTTED. Prone on the ground, head in hands, crying their eyes out gutted.

As for Zambia, what an unbelievable achievement. And again, not in the 'tinpot nation raises game a bit, to win tinpot trophy' sense. Proper serious football achievement. They beat Senegal, Ghana and Ivory Coast to win that cup. Could England put those results together?

Yes if we dont win it.

So if the Albion finish seventh this season, and fail to win the FA Cup, will this entire season have been a 'waste of time'.

Do you really place NO value on anything other than collecting trophies. What a massively shit thing it must be, to be a Chelsea fan.

I never said the Toure's thought it was a waste of time, obviously they will be gutted along with the rest of their team. However, they were expected to win the tournament and especially to beat Zambia (who were superb btw). So them not winning is considered a failure, which coupled with Man City dropping points will make Rooney chuckle.

A tournament for national sides that comes round every four years simply cannot be compared to club football, if Brighton stay up this season which looks fairly likely , no this season wont be a waste of time, it will have given players invaluable experience and will be a platform to build on for an eventual promotion push, taking the same old " golden generation" players who will inevitably be hawking the "we can win it " bollocks through ghost written newspaper columns will indeed be a massive waste of time, i'd even be prepared to concede the point if we were using it to blood young players, but we wont, so if by some miracle we made the final and lost , i'd consider it a waste of f***ing time ,you're correct in your assumption that for the national team, I place no value on anything other than winning trophies. the attitude you espouse is one of the reasons we why we win fuckall, what a massively shit thing it must be to be a self righteous brighton fan who cant see beyond the self congratulatory martydom of watching a team that isnt in the "premiershite"

PS for anyone else reading this , it isnt a dig at brighton , i always want them to win , and would love to see them win the cup and get promoted.

Schoolboy banter. A comment devoid of any wit. To be expected really.

Where's super Mario when you need him for some off field capers.

This whole Manchester rivalry thing is a dream for the journos. they are gonna hype it to the max come the run in. Yawn yawn.

I think you're confusing me with somebody else. I LOVE the Premiership.

My comments were aimed at any fan who's got so used to seeing his club win things, that it becomes all about the prizes, and he stops enjoying the ride, for the ride itself. I chose Chelsea, not as an example, but because I was replying to YOU, and you are, erm, a Chelsea fan.

Personally thought it was just harmless banter. Seem to remember Ballack getting some stick for losing in three finals one year and no-one thought that was classless. Seems because its Rooney and he isn't the sharpest tool in the box he's fair game. get over yourselves.
