They made us look like the away team up to the sending off and had a legit goal and a few decent chances - dominate may be a bit strong but they were certainly on top.

They should be rightly aggrieved at their capitulation at having a player sent off. they seemed just to give up or demonstrated that they are just a one player team

TBF mate I'm nut sure it crossed the line, certainly not the whole of the ball crossing the whole of the line. Pics below confirm it.

But we certainly had control of the first half with numerous near misses (see below). I was very confident at half time. It was seemed obvious with your depleted squad you werent gonna stay that lucky for 90 mins. However with our best player gone and our other big striker injured all within a minute it clearly all changed. Once that had happened it was there for the taking for Albion which admitidly you did well.

I'd say it was about even until the red card - we'd both had chances and near misses. After the card I thought we gave a masterclass in how to play against 10 men - we switched the ball from wing to wing and ran them into the ground. We hassled them all over the pitch when they had the ball and didn't allow them any options. Once we scored there was only going to be one winner and the other goals came from our domination. I wonder if Burnley would like a copy of the DVD.

Wow gotta admit I thought it was further over the line than that !!!

We sat back for a bit after our 1st goal which shit me up a bit but it was only for about 5 mins max, then we pushed forward again

Think that still shot above is misleading and it was over the line. They defo had the first half but not by a great deal imo and we bossed the 2nd ... can't see that it would have been a whole lot different if Lambert had stayed on. But games are about goals and points are awarded based on goals scored vs goals conceeded not "if only this, if only that". Sometimes you get the luck sometimes you don't, we've been a long time waiting for a little of our own!

They were better but it was nowhere near as one sided as people are making out

Whatever, There are three perfect examples above of how close we were to scoring plus others I didnt get on my camera. No soft sending off = no Albion victory. Simples.

The 'goal' is a weird one, it looked over to me at the time, turned around to everyone and said so. The pictures make it look as though it wasn't fully other, but the video again makes it look over.

However, I spent a lot of matchesthinking that the ball has crossed the opposite side line for a throw in, so it may just be a weird thing with height and angles. And we can't really see where Cook's foot is in the photographs.

Think we got away with it.

Saints were in control but I don't think they dominated, and even before Rickie's sending off we looked OK in the second half.

Also, that Saints fan who has been posting on here recently with the signature with a quote from Poyet saying 'Southampton are like Dagenham and Redbridge without Lambert'. I wouldn't go as far as Poyet but the game surely demonstrates how badly they rely on him. 2 league games without him now, although haven't they signed someong from J-League- bit of a risk but if he becomes a successful player a way to tap into the Asian market?

I might actually be wrong after all after seeing it on Saints Player. If you have Seagulls player, your login should work.

Southampton | Player | Latest News | Adkins Rues Goal Not Given

nope. Looked at it again and again and if you freeze it you can see Cook's boot behind the line but not the ball which is on the line - there just is not the space for the whole of the circumference of the ball to have crossed beyond the goal line. Very very close call in fairness but where there is any doubt the lino has to favour the defender. Not often those calls go our way but this time I think it was the right decision...................................just!

It wasn't a soft sending off either, Lamber is a bloody idiot (yes, like Greer). You can't push someone in the face directly in front of the refereee. Rediculous.

For what it's worth, I thought neither side dominated the first half. Southampton had periods, brighton had periods. Southampton were more threatening in their periods, but I felt we were comfortable.

Lambert hit El Abd, it isn't a soft red. It's a clear red all day long. You can argue he was agitated by El Abd, who does that well, but that doesn't make it ok to hit an opponent. There was nothing soft about it at all.

I thought the ball was over the line for southampton when I saw it, and on the replays on ssn, but those photos do seem to show doubt, you expect the southampton site (especially given their almost comical match report) to show any picture that would make it look over the line, but they don't, nor do they even suggest it was (in a report that argues lambert was trying to hit the ground in frustration and accidentally caught El Abd), so now I'm not so sure.

I didn't think you were all over us mate, what can I say ?
Yeah you edged the 1st half & should have been a goal up but it wasnt the Southampton onslaught everyone is trying to make out it was but like I keep saying YOU HAD THE BETTER FIRST HALF

You couldn't possibly say we wouldn't have won if you never got the red !
Either way that was a piss poor 2nd half & deserves no excuses

The crux of it is Saints are a one man team with one way of playing, long ball to Fatty. Take him out of the equation and they really are just another side. Gus proved right again, as soon as they lost fatty they seemed to know their game plan was stuffed and lost all belief and fell apart. Found out.

He is important to us yes, but dont forget Guly got injured within the same minute and a few minutes later came off. And why "fatty." The man is a lean athlete.

When RL doesn't play, you dont play. Seems pretty simple to me.
