Wow. What can I say about today? Let's see.
First half was shocking. Far too negative. I think the tactics were severely misjudged- you cannot go to a place like Reading and try to play passing football.
Reading were really not very good. They had two chances and scored two goals, plus another courtesy of ourselves.
Second half, we gave it a good go, and despite his work-rate, which was once again formidable, CMS really should've netted twice.
El-Abd was getting skinned all over the place and Tarrico wasn't at the races today- this was our ultimate downfall.
Ryan Harley was a waste of space once again today. Bottled out of every challenge, his passing was dire, and the one shot he had was so tame. He is so incredibly frustrating and I don't think he is good enough at this level. It just seems as if he does not give one solitary shit about playing for us.
Paynter was a waste of space once again. Not going to go into that though, we all know that he is not what we are looking for. Send him back ASAP.
3-0 was very harsh on us. I think a 1-0 Reading win or a draw would have been fair based on our second half performance.
Ratings:
Ankergren-6 Did nothing wrong. Didn't have a save to make, but was let down by his defence
El-Abd-4 Obviously we were forced to play him at RB, but he was dreadful today.
Greer-6 Did OK. Drove the team on and was fairly solid.
Dunk-5 Did what he had to do
Tarrico-4 Not good enough today
Buckley-5 Ineffective
Bridcutt-5 Passing was off today
Harley-0 Dire
LuaLua-5 Ineffective
Sparrow-4 Did nothing of note
CMS-5 Ran a lot, but missed two guilt-edged chances

Subs-
Noone-6 Scared the life out of the Reading defence when he came on. Should have started
Paynter-0 As he has been all season
Agree fully and must say it was nearly 25 mins before lua lua actually touched the ball, when he did have the ball he done very well and yes tarrico was shite and always rolling around on the floor.Reading were there for the taking but we just like many games lose the plot and fu*k up.

F*ck me, really at 6.02pm? We were back in Tun Wells by 6.30pm! And we stayed til the bitter, disappointing end. For me Harley and the full backs were the weak link, don't think Harley won a single 50:50. Grrr.

Yep, took us ages to get out of the £8 car park.

I cannot believe all the negativity on here as I thought that we played quite well and certainly didnt deserve to lose 3-0. Our problems were caused by the full backs not being able to contain Hebe and McAnuff. Sparrow had a good solid proffesionals game as did Harley who passed the ball across the midfield with great skill and accuracy yes he missed a couple of tackles. Paynter laid off some good balls when he came on and and the industry of Noone showed up as they put 2 men on to defend against him. Another problem was the fact that CMS had the chances to win the game for us but must be sadly lacking in confidence buta couple of goals and he will be ok. We desperately need a Chapelow, Liam Lawrence type midfielder to win the ball and also get forward perhaps even Alan Smith of Newcastle.

Prior to the substitution of Lua Lua and Buckley I said that I would take off Lua Lua and bring on Noone then go 4-4-2 with Buckley up front with CMS for a trial period of about 10 mins and if it didnt work bring on Paynter.

hmmm....

We just didn't take our chances today.

CMS missed two.

Paynter put a sitter over the bar.

The ref didn't help, looked like a pen to me when CMS was pushed and tbh the ref/lino didn't pick up any of the off the ball pushing/pulling on CMS throughout the game.

Harley wasn't as bad as people are making out, he played some nice passes and also had a decent chance in the second half, plus he did throw himself into a few tackles. BUT he does seem to drift out of the game.

Finally Reading made the most of the fact that we had full backs with little or no pace.

Oh and I'd like to add that the home fans attempts at creating an atmos were dire..

one other thing... Paynter was f***ing AWFUL

We were not as good as them at defending, and we messed about too much giving them time to get organised, plus we took a pass when shots were on. El abd played well but looked slow, Tanno looked very slow. Harley, on dear. Need a keeper a goal scorer, defender, midfielder....... We were much better when Noone came on.

Not sure what game you were watching, but el abd had a mare today and tanno wasn't much better.

ERM...one person sed maybe 1/0 to reading or draw fair...other didn't think we played that bad etc etc..which bit av i missed

were wigan unlucky to lose 5-0 today too. 3-0 sounds very convincing! dont recall too many 3-0 unlucky defeats.

The biggest problem today was El Abd isnt a right back and was beaten constantly. Him playing there is a direct result of the injury and discipline crisis we find ourselves in. Harley just isnt good enough at this level and I see no signs that others on here claim are coming in terms of improvement. His first touch is poor, his passes dont create anytging, and he just never has enough time to control the ball hence always being so easily dispossesed. This is a level too high for him im afraid.

CMS put a shift in but should have scored 2, Paynter should have had one. We:clap: actually played well and could have had a draw minimum if wed taken our chances.

Lastly, we were playing last seasons play off final losers away. They are a top 6 side. People here act like we have some bizarre right to beat every team and are actually ofended we lose games. If we stay up this season job done imo and that is only going to need 6 more wins.

Reading put us under a lot of pressure in the first 20 and duly got their reward for it. I thought that El Abd was done for pace on at least on occasion, but we did look better going forward in the second half after Noone came on: trouble is it was over for us by then, especially as we seemed incapable of hitting the target. Three things:

Noone should always start.
Gus should not be playing Tarrico.
We need to stop giving the ball away so much - there wasn't much quality or composure out there today.

Back in Farnham, great miss by Billy...

Don't think I would miss Billy...CMS ..perpetual motion but does'nt get enough back up...Nooney always dazzles defenders because nobody knows which way he is going to turn and today he was centering the ball from one touch,Dunky cleared a great goal attempt from the line...can see why Premier clubs are looking at McNuff though...real class.

Unlike most people on here it seems, you watched the same game as me. People just trot out the same old claptrap. Harley, for instance, played some decent stuff today and certainly did as well as Bridcutt and more than Sparrow yet gets all the flak. Likewise, while Painter may not be the all-action forward we want (and would not be able to afford), his presence made us much more threatening. Both CMS chances came about partly because of his near post runs dragging a defender away.He also got across his man well with the shot he wasn't able to turn in (had to be hit first time from a tight angle), teed up Harley nicely at one point and started another attack by spraying an excellent pass out to Noone. But, of course, he's utter shit because some Leeds fans said so on the Internet. Presumably ones with the same sort of football knowledge as some of the Albion fans today who from the off started slagging the players they've predetermined are crap.

I actually though Harley was ok but he seemed to loose it as the 2nd half went on.It was like you could see the confidence draining out of him and he seemed to go to pieces.First half i thought he tackled and passed ok.I thought Sparrow did a good job as well. The 2 full backs were our biggest problem.

So what makes you have more knowledge than others? Do you really believe people (the majority of) that post here aren't able to express their own opinion and have no knowledge of the game? People are entitled to their views just as you are ... there's rarely right or wrong when making subjective judgement

Sorry but your statement is arrogant and without any basis in fact

I think Harley is crap if he turns in a decent performance I'm happy to say so but I've not seen one yet

From thte radio and some reports on here, it certainly looks as if El Abd and Tanno were roasted during 1st half. They got away with it last week cos Burnley were shit, we may get away with it against Coventry, but I worry what Southampton will do to them, any team with pace will rip them to shreds.
Need Reyes back, day 1 of the transfer window.
