Wow. What can I say about today? Let's see.
First half was shocking. Far too negative. I think the tactics were severely misjudged- you cannot go to a place like Reading and try to play passing football.
Reading were really not very good. They had two chances and scored two goals, plus another courtesy of ourselves.
Second half, we gave it a good go, and despite his work-rate, which was once again formidable, CMS really should've netted twice.
El-Abd was getting skinned all over the place and Tarrico wasn't at the races today- this was our ultimate downfall.
Ryan Harley was a waste of space once again today. Bottled out of every challenge, his passing was dire, and the one shot he had was so tame. He is so incredibly frustrating and I don't think he is good enough at this level. It just seems as if he does not give one solitary shit about playing for us.
Paynter was a waste of space once again. Not going to go into that though, we all know that he is not what we are looking for. Send him back ASAP.
3-0 was very harsh on us. I think a 1-0 Reading win or a draw would have been fair based on our second half performance.
Ratings:
Ankergren-6 Did nothing wrong. Didn't have a save to make, but was let down by his defence
El-Abd-4 Obviously we were forced to play him at RB, but he was dreadful today.
Greer-6 Did OK. Drove the team on and was fairly solid.
Dunk-5 Did what he had to do
Tarrico-4 Not good enough today
Buckley-5 Ineffective
Bridcutt-5 Passing was off today
Harley-0 Dire
LuaLua-5 Ineffective
Sparrow-4 Did nothing of note
CMS-5 Ran a lot, but missed two guilt-edged chances

Subs-
Noone-6 Scared the life out of the Reading defence when he came on. Should have started
Paynter-0 As he has been all season

Gus, post match comments:
" Have no complaints with the performance we just needed shots on target" Does this mean he is finally admitting it might be his tatics & team selection ??? No " The linesman must of been having a cup of Tea "

Please Gus as must as I have faith in your ability I do feel you need to take more responsibility for your decisions.

Didn't think we were that bad today Passed it around with a quicker tempo but just lacking a cutting edge in the final third .
It'll all come together soon with a couple more signings

Agree, we really weren't as bad as the scoreline suggests. We just lacked that creative spark and the foil for CMS once again. It has to be addressed in January. If we find the right 2 players, we could be unstoppable.

We have only just got on to the M4. Thought Reading were all over us until they scored. we were not too bad after that but conceding in injury time certainly didn't help. We came out well in the second half but I dont we would have scored if we were still playing. CMS is a work horse but he should be putting some his chances away. We had no full backs today either.

I dont know how you can criticise the ref? Dont think he did anything wrong and certainly didnt influence the result. Its getting a bit boring our staff and fans constantly moaning about officials. Need to start looking at ourselves and our discipline.

Im normally a very positive fan but I was a bit disapointed today. We got taught a bit of a lesson today in my opinion. We looked like a league 1 team against a good championship team. Lots of huff and puff and possession of the ball but didnt create enough concerted pressure and made it easy for Reading to score.

I agree with what you say about CMS, incredible workrate but he had to score at least one and really two. Its not really good enough at this level. Noone was superb when he came on but the rest were all pretty poor.

Harley and Paynter in particular need sorting out, both looked completely out of the depth.

Macanuff and Kebe for them on the other hand were absolutely superb and both looked on another level to our players.

Today just reinforced what I have thought for a while, we are a lower mid table championship team and if we want to go up in the next couple of years we need considerable investment.

No real issue with the ref today, a few times the likes of Buckley were shoved off the ball too easily. Our weakness was definitely at full back where Kebe and McInuff caused problems. We couldn't seem to get Buckley and Lua Lua into the right positions to cause problems. We need someone different to Sparrow and Harley to add something to support CMS. Shame he couldn't take his chances.

CMS should definitely have had a penalty from where I was standing. We weren't getting those niggly free-kicks that every team seems to get against us. Not sure if that's just blue and white (or in this case green and black) tinted glasses talking though. Not that you can blame the ref for the defeat though- we just were not good enough today by a long stretch.
Agree on all other counts- McAnuff and Kebe were different class, and El-Abd and Tarrico really failed to deal with them.
Harley is really starting to f*** me off now. Just doesn't look as if he gives a shit. The less said about Paynter the better.

We were not as good as them at defending, and we messed about too much giving them time to get organised, plus we took a pass when shots were on. El abd played well but looked slow, Tanno looked very slow. Harley, on dear. Need a keeper a goal scorer, defender, midfielder....... We were much better when Noone came on.

Harley is constantly shit. Sorry he's had long enough now and it seems clear he isn't good enough for this level or our football. Had enough of him.
