Why is he getting involved??
Surely this can only detract from the job in hand. Playing well at Southampton on Saturday.
This can only act as a distraction.

Totally agree.

All we have is an alligation from one player about another, as yet there is no evidence

For the purposes of this debate, it actually doesn't matter what happened in that incident, we don't know, Gus Poyet doesn't know.

He's saying that Evra should take it on the chin and that's a charter for racists.

Fair point but if there is or isnt we dont know so we are guilty of "jumping the gun" choosing which side to beleive but we dont actualy know do we

Exactly why gus should have kept his mouth shut on the issue until we know the facts.

Anyone get the feeling the club will have to take a similar stance that the FA had to with Hoddle.

Nope, as dumb as it was far from a sackable offence

That interview is shocking to be honest. It started off ok, him saying "all I want to talk about is Suarez and that he is absolutely not racist" (paraphrased) - fine. But then he goes off on one - again - and it's all downhill from there.

This is going to run and run... and get bigger and bigger...

Sorry Chappers, I normally agree with you, but the outcry here is not that he thinks Suarez didn't racially abuse Evra, it is the fact he says that he suffered 7 years abuse in Spain and dealt with it, and that Evra should stop being such a cry baby.

I've got Talksport on, and he's had a shocker. He could have left it at sticking by his buddy, but the other stuff, christ on a bike, I don't know what he was thinking.

Regardless of whether Suarez is cleared or not, it's a shocking statement to make at a time 2 separate racists complaints are being handled at this time.

It's easy to put quotes together and make it sound like something else though, and i can see this happening with this. For example, you have said that Poyet suffered abuse and didn't say anything and that Evra should stop being a cry baby. These are quotes from two different sources, one the guardian article and one from his Talksport interview. As separate quotes that paint a different picture to when used together. He HAS said Suarez was not being racist. He HAS said that the word used is not a slur.

Probably working!
Gus on talk sport
“I understand people in this country and I changed my way of behaving, but Luis has been in this country just a few months.
“I played in Spain for seven years and they called me everything. It doesn’t make it right, but what do you want? Tell me what you want.
“Me, I’m not racist. I’ve lived with people of different colours in different countries and I adapted to every single situation. Suarez needs to adapt to England, and England needs to adapt to the players that come here.
“England should adapt to the foreigners that come here and England needs to understand how the rest of the world lives. If we have that understanding, easy.
“If you try to go to a point that doesn’t exist in the rest of the world, it’s going to be complicated. You think the rest of the world is wrong and you are right. Maybe it looks like you want the whole world to drive on the right hand side. Do you want that? So you need to adapt as well.
“Luis Suarez is 100% not a racist. We can accuse people and make Suarez look like a racist, but he’s not. He lived in a country where we live with people and work with people of other colour. And we trust them to the end.
“You are not racist when you go against one, but [you are] if you go against the whole world of different colour and nationalities. That is being racist, not saying one word in one moment.
“If that’s what you want, fair enough. I take it and accept it. I had to behave in a different way because I’ve been in England for 13 years. So I know what you are like and I adapt to that.
“Give Suarez another six months and I think he’ll be how you want him to be. “

True. Funny how Gus goes mental with rage at most referee decisions but advises Evra to take it on the chin.
