People chatting at gigs

Brighton factually.....
Should I ever own a venue you can rest assured that Tubthumpers will have a no talking and no camera phones policy at all times. The night club Berghain has a no mobile phone policy. If they see you with one then you're out the door. They have yet to ban talking.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

You need to hire The M3T3ORS Wreckin Crew, who confiscate all cameras and beat people up who wear others bands t-shirts, we saw them in Barcelona at a weekender with other bands they headlined and my mates wife took some photos of the Meteors and one of the wreckin crew came over snatched the camera off her and said she could not have it back unless she deleated all the photos, so he stood over her while she did. And they play way tooo loud to hear people chatting, anyways if you feel the need to chat at a gig, you dont realy wanna be there do you. So Herr im with you.

On the other hand my wife and her friends were told off for signing and dancing and generally enjoying themselves when Elton played at the cricket ground last time.

You pay to hear the performer sing, not some daft cacophonous old bint (not a reference to Mrs HB&B) ruining the sounds.

It does annoy me when you have someone in front of you waving a cameraphone about and paying more attention to that than the actual gig/concert/etc

It's reassuring to know it's not just me and my grumpy old mates who see this as an issue then. Thanks for the posts. I like the idea of the Meteors Wrecking Crew. I've always had a soft spot for rocker/psychobillies so they will get the stewarding contract at Tubthumper's Music Hall.

Bloody lovely day by the way.

I have been going to punk and metal gigs solidly for the last 34 years .I can't even hear my own mates let alone anyone else. I have never been to see a band where the audience is louder at the band! And if anybody gets on anybody elses shoulders at a festival, that normally signals a barrage of good old fashioned Donington bottles of piss at the said shoulder riding offender.

Been to see the Meteors a few times back in the day.New Regent , Old Vic , Top Rank with the Anti Nowhere League and the Stray Cats. Not safe down the front without either a suitable psychobilly crown or even an item of clothing on your upper body.I used to rush in when they played Gettofa my cloud , close my eyes and hope I didn't get to pummled and then run out again. People talk about mosh pits , and I've been a few violent ones (Exploited,GBH New Model Army), but they are kiddie pits compared to a psychobilly gig. punk:

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Herr TB on this. So many people chat through gigs these days. I have been in a number of arguments in recent years because of this issue. It is definitely more of a problem in Brighton and London than the north though, from my experience, we are just too trendy in the south to actually bother to listen to anything.

Hence why in my opinion the majority of the best bands in this country come from the North.

I thought it was just me getting old. Charlatans Acoustic set at the Komedia. A quiet-ish set, just Tim Burgess singing and Mark Collins on guitar. Two couples did not stop talking, and because they were right down the front the band must have been aware of them. I was annoyed and embarrassed. I put it down to low attention spans (the Festival generation who only want to hear the hits?), lack of respect and the general increase in inane social chatter (see Facebook) all fuelled by a pint or two.

Agree 100% with HT.

Talking at gigs in a pet hate of mine, along with using mobiles, and throwing pints around.

They obviously do not give a shit about the music, and are invariably there for the kudos of seeing that particular band/artist.

I see Radiohead got the hump with their New York crowd jabbering all the way through a recent gig.

I saw Oasis a few years back and Noel did a solo version of Wonderwall with just his acoustic guitar. Before starting he said "If anyone f***ing talks or sings while I'm playing this, I'm gonna stop - Alright?". Quality.

100% agree with you on this thread HT, however, I have experienced this at a number of 'head gigs too, pisses me off totally. The worst example I can think of was at the Led Zep 'reunion' show at the O2, there was a bloke, no more than mid 20s, talking all the way through the first number (Ramble On ?) and telling his mates how he couldn't believe they'd started with whatever song it was, I told him to f***ing shut up or piss off at the end of the song, got a lot of appreciative comments and thumbsup from those around us. He did indeed f*** off.

Good times bad times if I remember correctly! I had similar problems at the same gig with a yank who would not shut up until he was given an ultimatum to shut up or be shut up.

Its just modern life, was appalled at the Pulp gig in Hyde Park this year where the crowd was not only talking a lot but certain elements were taking great pleasure in luzzing pints over people.

I blame excessive all day drinking and these big events atract a certain crowd, most small gigs are too loud or too intimate to get away with such behaviour, but the bigger ones you realise you are in with the great, the good and the unwashed.

I plan to atend Mistys Big Adventure next month at Shoreham Moonrakers new pad, so talkers bog off or Erotic Volvo will turn you blue.

I was at the Pulp Hyde Park gig too - Pulp were superb, but where ever we stood in the crowd, we seemed to be surrounded by pissed-up idiots with verbal diarrhea - and a few of them were also pretty aggressive.

In fact, these arse-holes ruined it for us, and we've decided not to go to any more open-air gigs; we'll stick to traditional gigs in smaller venues where people haven't been getting pissed since mid-day.

It was indeed GTBT. The fella I told to shut up may well have been north American, perhaps it was when he continued his crap during Ramble On. Stage centre, 1/3 back from the front.

I had a spate of 'the chattering classes' rabbiting away at the Komedia during some pretty quiet gigs and vowed not to bother any more, which was a shame...usually a couple who probably never utter 2 words to each other at home spending the whole 90 odd minutes excitedly chatting about work, friends, etc etc

The worst gigs were Bic Runga, Guillemots, Nina Nastasia and Tunng, all of which need a bit of hush..Did a whole circuit of the Dome during an Elbow gig and still couldn't find anywhere quiet!!

Worthing
That's nothing, I went to a Smashing Pumpkins gig about 5 years ago and spent the whole show packed into a group of people, right behind a fellow with long, greasy ginger hair, which I don't think he'd washed since they released their first album. Whenever I hear them now all I can think of is sick and gone-off milk.

I went to see Berlin electronic bod Apparat at The Haunt last night. Mr Apparat and his band were excellent but their atmospheric music and sounds were let down by some goons in the crowd. The band highlighted the fact that the talking was distracting and affecting them especially as they were using "supsensitive mikes." The band then cut another song short as "the mood wasn't right." paused for a bit then said "let's have a little rave then we can all go home." and proceeded to play a couple of more robust techno numbers before calling it a night.

Ggggggrrrrrrrrrr

Great gig though, the stand out musician was the drummer. Incredible. Check out their new Mute album The Devils Walk.
