Worthing
I`m having problems connecting to my internet and i`m getting pretty close to smashing this bloody thing so if any one can help i`ll be most grateful.
My connection icon stays yellow and indicates that the connection signal is low or very low.I`m sure the BT router (homehub 2) in the hallway is fine because if I use a laptop next to my main PC that works ok.
7-8 metres from the wireless box is not to far is it ?
I have a Belkin wireless card in the PC if that is any help ?

And yes i have tried turning the ******g thing off and back on again.:annoyed:

Many thanks NSC

The name gives it away
well I would start by directly connecting the router to the PC and checking again. If its then ok its the router or the wireless card. If its still crap its the PC
Wireless cards are not always as good as they make out. You could also move the PC closer to the router temporarily to see if that helps

Thanks but if it is wired back to the router does it then take this option itself or do you have to disable the wireless connection first.

He may not have an RJ45 cable. What he should really do is call his IT, BT. Mind you, I hope he doesn't mind being asked a load of pointless questions by somebody thousands of miles away. Sounds to me like the router is dying. The routers that BT give you 'for free' are in fact crap, I would invert a few bob in a better device. After a lot of checking around I have found that Belkin do pretty well, better thanthe more expensive Netgear in fact for the daddy is from Buffalo, an American make which runs rings around the competition.

I have had this in the past, where I have plugged the cable into the pc and rebooted a bit like the ist time you do a laptop. Then hopefully all the settings will be transferred.

If you restart the machine it should take the connection from the wired connection. Wireless as you are finding it out can be a pain in the a**** and can be a number of factors from interferance, faulty card and router/PC settings and drivers. As your laptop works fine it would point to the wireless card in your PC. It might be worth purchasing a USB wireless adapter from PCworld and trying that (making sure you can take it back if it does not resolve the problem)

I have tried sticking the cable from PC to router back in but when I go into Connection manager I still get 'Network cable unplugged'....... so its not picking up LAC is it. Cannot think where I would have to change this. I`m sure cable is ok.

ps can it run both ? wireless and wired
