puts our signings into perspective..........................

Everton have paid a reported fee of £2m to sign 15-year-old midfielder George Green from Bradford City.

The Toffees are believed to have beaten a number of clubs to Green's signing, including Premier League rivals Tottenham and Germany's Bayern Munich.

Green will become a full-time part of Everton's youth setup next summer.

"He has got good potential but at the moment that's all it is," said the club's academy director Alan Irvine. "He has got a lot of work to do."

That doesn't seem very likely considering the lack of money Everton have been spending. If Moyes had £2m to spend, he'd be looking for for some cheapo import that can help him NOW, not a "potential" signing like this.

Perhaps there are numerous add-ons that could eventually take the fee to £2m, but there is no way they've spent that up front IMHO.

How many of these big money under 16 players have gone on to be good Premier League players?

Walcott, was he under 16 when signed? Now I'm struggling. Who else?

Wasn't Defoe pretty young when there was a whole fuss about West Ham nicking him off Charlton?

Jermaine Pennant. Arsenal bought him off Notts Co. at about 15.

But for every success there are a lot of Sunny Pikes.
