WHY is the atmosphere so good?

The commentator on sky last night said how good the atmosphere was, he said it is so much better than other new stadia which he reffered to as soul less !

Ray mentioned the atmosphere several times on Wednesday. He did it in that patronising monotone way of his, but he was obviously impressed.

I bet with another tier in the East Stand, creating a lower "roof" for the present East Stand seats and a low roof for the upper tier, 3000k? more fans, The Amex would probably have the best atmosphere in England.

Funny, people were complaining after the first two games that the sound didn't 'travel'.

I knew it was bollocks, we just needed to settle in, now its a bowl of pure noise, I guess having away sellouts, which have a good array of songs, helps a lot too.

Palace will be loud, very very loud.

For the first time in years I have completely lost my voice as a result of a football match! the atmosphere has been amazing for every game so far, and long may it continue. I am wishing my life away till Tuesday now. I simply cannot wait!

Another reason why the noise is so good is that vocal fans are distributed around the ground in various areas - even the East is finding its voice thanks to the encouragement of some persistent singers who look like they have North Stand form.

I keep thinking that maybe it will go quiet at some points of the season, but given that most of us are season ticket holders and will always be in the same places, perhaps it will get even louder as people who might once have been quiet are discovering the joys of screaming and shouting.

Nice to see Gus referring to fan noise in the programme yesterday. I'm pretty needy about that kind of thing.

Just the enthusiasm built up after so many years without a ground. I for one treat the Amex as way more of an away-day style day out than I ever did at Withdean (or the Goldstone as a kid), and would imagine more than most fans up and down the country when they go to a home match.

I agree. I also think these opening few months are important for proving that we as fans create the "soul" of the stadium, to dispel the myth that all new stadia are soulless concrete bowls. And we're doing a bloody good job so far.

But yes, the acoustics are clearly VERY good.

Also, anyone notice the entire north stand was stood for practically the whole game last night? Brilliant that the stewards are being so lenient - it certainly contributes.

Me too..

After 70 mins I was very croaky and at the end all I could do was squeak. I've only got a squeaky voice today and a sentence is ended with a fierce and very painful coughing fit. :-(

Hopefully I can sort it before Palace or I'm gonna lose it forever come 10pm Tuesday.

for the first few games the occasional 'seagulls' and 'albionnnnn' were being sung in WSU Block B and I thought it was a bit quite. But last night has made me really like my seat ( liked it before, really like it now) very noisy, and for the rival games can see my seat being very fun indeed bring on palace!

He said 200% more fans, so 7000 plus 200% (roughly 14000) = the 20000 plus quoted (and I know 7000 + 14000 = 21000)
