Sorry, am I missing the point here, St Paddy's day subjects us to the tri-color outside every single pub. St Georges day is a celebration of being English (I'm Scottish by the way) but I love this country...so why the snide comments. The people of England should not be ashamed and always celebrate their day (in addition, great time to have our asylum seekers swear allegiance to the Flag of St George)

There is a faction on here, often those who consider themselves the most vociferously patriotic, who at the same time make an enormous amount of noise claiming that there exists within society an element who makes them (the patriots) feel bad or embarrassed about expressing said patriotism.
They are often derided as 'loony lefties' or 'the PC brigade'. Once upon a time, there may have been one or two people who have mentioned that they feel uncomfortable about celebrating their national day. The uber-patriots take this as a cue to moan and whine and grizzle, and generally feel aggrieved about being treated as third-class citizens in their own country, and about how they're discouraged from celebrating, how councils fine people for hanging out a flag of a Cross of St George out of their window, how celebrating St George's Day is banned in case it offends Muslims and so on...
Meanwhile everyone else ignores such childish drivel, and just laughs and ridicules such a pathetic attempt to politicise England's national day by celebrating in their own personal manner (e.g. drink a pint of English ale, toast St George or do whatever it is that makes us pleased and proud to be English).
In this instance, the Brighton & Hove St George's Day Charity has held its eighth Charity Luncheon at, for the first time, the American Express Community Stadium. With pride.
