I don't think anyone's in the wrong at the moment, but while I don't doubt we've got our eyes on players who are as proven for the same money, I still things liek transfer fee, resettlement and the personality of the player mean we should offer a big sign on fee to stay

I wouldn't accuse him of greed, he's just had the best season of his career and knows he's in a strong negotiating position. He's probably only got one big contract left in his career and he needs to make sure he gets the most out of it that he possibly can.

Any idea of loyalty in football (with a few exceptions) is a total myth and he's just doing what any of us would do in our own job.

No doubt a quality player but I think Gus believes he misses too many chances and at championship level you won't get as many chances as this season and has limited any offer to show that

Pork pie land.
What out of contract strikers ,in our £bracet are out there i wonder ?

This has nothing to do with our "£bracket". The Club have offered what they think he is worth. It clearly says "The League One title winners have offered the out of contract striker a substantial pay rise in a deal they feel fairly reflects the value of a player unproven at Championship level". It does not mention any problem with our pay structure does it?

Glenn's all round game was critical to our success this season, and whilst I agree that we shouldn't break the bank to keep him, I believe it will be tough to find someone better.
I agree, he did so much more than score goals, he holds the ball up so well and his all round game has improved shit loads under Gus.

This the key bit for me. Let's hope they have someone in mind if Glen leaves. Mind you, we'll need to sign 3 strikers if he goes!
I agree if Glenn goes we will need to replace him and a 2nd striker with Championship experience. I think Barnes will be a more than adequate back up from the bench, but we'd still need a 3rd in case of injuries.

This, and more importantly, fails to take chances - before some "statto" shows his goals to shots ratio again.

We just dont have the same attacking intent when Glenn isnt in the team.

He wins the headers from long balls, he holds the ball up when its given to his feet. He has pace to beat defenders. He also drops deep to create a link between bridcutt and the attack, when he doesnt play the other forwards dont have the same work rate or ability to control and hold up the ball. He also now has the confidence to shoot from distance (something he has never done before)

We need him in the team, even if he doesnt score as many in the championship. No player in the team wins more penalties and free kicks in dangerous areas. And this also brings Bennett and his many assists into the picture.

Murray is NOT a proven Championship striker but a very good L1 striker. So seems to me compromise is needed. Murray deserves an increase yes and possible performance related further wage rise but not the equivalent of a porven Championship striker. Anythign else and I think he stops being our porblem and we look elsewhere. We cannot blow our wage structure for one player. End of

It's just negotiating innit.

The agent says he is being offered substantially more, but that may be fact or fiction. In our favour, i can't imagine there has been anyone in his professional career who has improved his game as much as Gus. Prior to Gus he was a talented but inconsistent div 1 striker (and, i suspect that without Gus he may go back to the same). And i can't think of anyone i would rather have handling the negotiations than TB.

If he stays, he stays if he goes, he goes, but the decision will be right for the Albion. :albion1::albion2::albion1:

agree, however 3 strikers in place of Murray are you saying (which I just dont see that equation) or 3 strikers in total which I also dont see with Barnes still here and performing.

You're right. If I were him i would be happy to spend a season proving myself in the Chamionship on this substantial pay rise.

There are very few players indeed outside of the Premiership with as good an all round game as Glenn. It will be a colossal blow to lose him.

Agreed, some people on this thread are beggars belief, does no-one remember Southampton away? Bournemouth away? To think we can 'easily' replace him is ridiculous and I can't really work out Gus's game with this? Does he really not see what we do? Is he just being stubborn, because Glenn can (maybe?) be hard to manage? True he is unproven at Championship level, but does this not go for most of our squad?

While we should not be breaking the bank, and are possibly playing hard ball (double bluffing to see if other clubs really are interested) I feel we are treading on dangerous ground.

Absolutely.

If he does go, I really hope the morons don't trot out the usual "Pah, he was rubbish anyway" nonsense.

Does anyone trust the statement being made by the agent?

His agent is a cock and an ex palace cock to boot, take anything he says with a pince of salt
