Me! The chocolate factory in Koblenz is amazing (probably not for the rugby player-type though.) Climb up the Cathedral spire, the views are great from the top!

If they are still serving bratwurst and chips with mayonnaise from street vendors..buy them. Many many years since I was there but I still drool thinking of those sausages and chips.

Do climb up the Cathedral spire if you don't suffer from vertigo.
Don't climb up the Cathedral spire if you do suffer from vertigo.

To expand on that a little, when you climb up the actual point of the spire at the top, you can see outside on all 4 sides through large gaps in the spire, so if you suffer from vertigo you will be able to see precisely how far off the ground you are. As BAG says, the views are great.

This could be seen as an opportunity. If you know someone in your group has vertigo, you could take them up there and laugh at them when their legs turn to jelly at the top.

I can't offer any more help than that as I went there when I was a kid, rather than on the sort of tour with mates on which you're going.

It is a bit like visiting a theme park in that a lot of the old looking buildings are actually replicas of those that stood there before the war, but worth one visit. Agree about the sausages though - they are usually about three times the size of the containing bun!!

One of my greatest disappointments after moving here from Germany was the Sausage stalls.. ...the sausages here are vile. German sausages are outfeckingstanding...

Kölsch is one of Germany's finest beer styles. There are several different brands but all are good. Don't be a crass tourist and try and order it in a pint. Accept it in the 20cl glass (a "Stange") that it will be offered in. And don't worry about getting thirsty: the waiters in Cologne are some of the most attentive anywhere and will be ready with a fresh one to chuck down your neck before you've finished the first one...

True, a very palatable beer.

Home of Can. Say no more. It is a superb place and one that I visit every five or so years when I manage to get a work visit to Germany. Great great city as indeed are Dusseldorf, Munich, Heidelberg,Stuttgart and I am led to beliebve Berlin also. Nice country and great people.

I have family there. The cathedral is lovely but don't believe any local who tells you God spared it during the bombing in the war. It was left standing by the RAF as a landmark for lost bomber planes to help them navigate home.

And to impress the Germans of our bombing accuracy, so they'd know we were not f**king about and could hit targets (by missing a potential one). I think it was the ONLY thing left standing in the area, and there's chunks out of the walls where shrapnel hit
