Will we all die in 2012?

Just before 2000, I was asked a serious question by a former colleague at work if I thought the world would end on Jan 1st 2000 as she had read it somewhere that it was going to happen. I was so astonished that she had allowed herself to believe such nonsense that I was just lost for words.

if we have to evacuate the planet like Mr adams said in his book i reckon that certain peoples should be left behind even if we do have enough spaceships to fly off with

obviously hairdressers and middle management can stay but i`d like the withdean stewards and fifa delegates to remain whilst we go off and form a new world

anyone in I.T. can stay as well I say

Did she read it here?

It is according to a customer of mine. Evidently we are going to be interfered with by another planet (Mars) that will cause an enormous Electromagnetic Pulse amongst other things. This is what happened 3000 years ago as described in Exodus apparently.

He wanted me to order a copy of "Worlds in Collision" by Immanuel Velikovsky as he had leant his to someone and not got it back. When I told him that the only version available at the moment would be in the region of R250 (20 quid), he said that he would let me know (ie it was too expensive). For some reason this make me chuckle.

He was deadly serious and it was very difficult to keep a straight face whilst he explained it all.

It's Nibiru that's gonna do it. Our sister planet.

Thanks for that. Very interesting. I will start making preparations now.

I particularly like this from the Wikipedia entry:

Astronomers point out that such an object so close to Earth would be easily visible to the naked eye (Jupiter and Saturn are both visible to the naked eye, and are dimmer than Nibiru would be at their distances), and would be creating noticeable effects in the orbits of the outer planets.[29] Some counter this by claiming that the object has been hiding behind the Sun for several years, though such a claim is geometrically impossible.[12] Images of Nibiru near the Sun taken by amateurs are usually the result of lens flares, false images of the Sun created by reflections within the lens

You're all wrong - it's not aliens, it's not planet Nibiru - It's the polar shift which will kill us all in 2012!

That's partially the basis of the film 2012, although they rely on alignment of the planets to cause it.

This is the kind of bollocks you would read on a forum where a majority of the people registered are about ten years old and pissing themselves because they're scared the world will end.

So will the world end? Remember the Large Hadron Collider, some scientists believed the world would end because we would create a black hole in the middle of switzerland. One guy who believed this was a CHEMIST. Saying the world would experience a 'Judgement day' As opposed to the THOUSANDS of Scientists from all over the world who have studied years on the many stages of quantum physics.

People shit themselves over nuclear power plants because of the incident at chernobyl when in reality Nuclear Power plants are very safe and the incident that happened in Chernobyl was caused by the stupidity of the scientists who were playing huge risks by seeing how hard a Nuclear Power plant could create energy. The fact is, if you don't understand it, don't be scared by it.

All the religious loonies in the States are backing 21.05.2011 for the end of days.

In that case, I'd have to politely disagree with them.

It was bad enough us not winning the Cup Final on the 21st May, let alone anything else that catastrophic possibly happening on that same day, albeit 28 years later.

They must have got it wrong by a day or two. Don't know about anybody else, but I'm fairly free on the 22nd so it could be pencilled in for then.

There are going to be a lot of very embarrassed people on the 22nd. I’m sure they are already working on a plan B in case the Rapture fizzles out. There have been so many of these claims that have come to nowt they must surely realize they have zero credibility. I suppose it keeps them off the streets.

the Asteroid due to hit in 2029 is now set to miss us according to a recent documentary I watched, dunno about 2012 though, probably get blown up by pirates!

There are plenty of asteroids that are big enough to cause big trouble, but won't be detected until few hoiurs before they hit, so we'd probably never know anything about it. At least if it happened now, we'd go out as top of the league.
