Initially on a three week trial, he has been released early by the club after failing to impress in the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Tuesday.
Thought he didn't look too bad, back end of last season but even with the loss of Nav we seem to be pretty well off with central midfielders now. I think Reading were trying to test him out wide but at 33 he has lost any pace he had.
Anyone liked to have seen him come to us?

He was too flimsy for me. Had the ability to sometimes find space, but i got the feeling i could brush him off the ball, and i am not Mighty Mouse.

The Reading report I read said hed played well against us but I suppose his attitude and training count plus how much he was hoping to get from them.

By the seaside in West Somerset
reports on the Reading site praise his attitude - the issue was his lack of pace

could still do a job in the championship or at our level but we have a very strong midfield now with more cover than we have ever had and the revelation that is Jamie Smith has put paid to any need we might have had.

Think i read somewhere their gaffer said they already had enough players in his position. I thought he could have done a job for us but the signing of Spaz & the re-emergence of Jamie Smith has facilitated our needs for that sort of player
Back to the park with his mates for Mr Hendrie then.

Agreed with all of the above. I'm frustrated at the fact I can't fit Sparrow & Smith into the same line-up so having Hendrie would probably mean we'll have 2 or 3 decent midfielders not even making the squad on match-day.

We need defensive cover if anything, midfield's fine.

Obviously I don't know anything about his situation, but I can't believe no club at this level would want to sign someone with the pedigree of Lee Hendrie. I wonder if his wage demands are putting clubs off him.

Gus offered him a contract but said he had to sign it so that he would get a full pre season in. Hendrie reckoned he could do better, and on Soccer am the a couple of weeks back said he went off to the states, and hads not had any other offers.

Reading between the lines its must be about getting a higher wage, and thinking you could find a bigger club, he missed his chance with us, Kishishev and Bridcutt look better.

I didn't know any of that, it certainly does put a different slant on it for me. He went to the States, but ended up having a trial with Motherwell in Scotland! I'm not disappointed we've not signed him, considering who we've signed instead. But I am still suprised that he hasn't found himself a club yet.

I dont know how anybody can compare him to Jamie Smith as they are totally different. Hendrie is best suited in central midfielder and Smith isnt strong enough for that and is best suited out wide. Of the 2 as a central midfielder I would go for Hendrie but as a wide man I would go for Smith depends on what position you need to fill or have back up.

It sounded like the States thing may even have just been a holiday. He looked a rather sad figure on Soccer am (they had Keith Gillespie on today, touting his avalibility). He talked about the offer Gus made him.

Modern football and agents for you, does he want to play for us now for x amount of grand a week (taking a big pay cut from the 16k he was getting before) and have to train/relocate/play JPT, or hang on and play for another side who will pay x amount more and perhaps play in a bigger/better stadium, perhaps Readings rejection may give him a reality check on what he may have to accept.

Having watched some American football, I think he would have been quite well suited out there, if he had gone to try and earn a contract somewhere. The games I've seen are quite laboured and slow, and everyone has mentioned his lack of pace, that sounds well suited to his game.

I hope it does give him a reality check, he's not got that many years left in him and all the time he's not at a club, he's not playing and his time is running out. I hope he finds himself a club, quickly. I still think he's got a lot to offer, especially to a club at this level.

I think he said he was playing Sunday league with his mates. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Perhaps managing Southampton.
