I'll endorse Edna's choice of Robert Harris (except Archangel which I thought was tedious). In fact, I have Lustrum for my holiday read.

Have you tried CJ Sansom's historical whodunnits? First one is set in Sussex and is excellent.

I finally got my copy of sex Lies & Handlebar Tape - The remarkable life of Jacques Anquetil.
I obviously appreciated it's a cycling niche book, but to quote the inside cover:-

'He also seduced and married the wife of his doctor, had a child with her stepdaughter, and then sustained a menage a trois with both mother and stepdaughter, under the same roof for 12 years. When his family eventually imploded, he attempted to inspire jealousy in his former lovers by having a child with his stepson's ex-wife'.

I can't imagine it's going to be a dull read.

Yes, Imperium is excellent.

I remember reading Cicero when I did my Latin O Level and thought he was a crashing bore. Good to see him painted in a different light.

Check out any of the Sam Bourne books.....One of the writer's competing for Dan Brown's crime imho.


John Grisham is also great! Read most of his stuff and A time to kill and The Firm are ones which stick out for me!

came across a book by mo hayder...enjoyed it - detective series,then got a couple more from the library which were more random..but still good.

Not one for the literary snobs but I'm another Grisham fan, read just about all of his stuff.

Going back to Robert Harris, I'd agree on Imperium but also enjoyed Pompeii, and The Ghost.

Anything by Jeffrey Deaver is a great read, if you havnt seen the film,The Bone Collector, then get the book, absolutely un-put-downable.
As said above, Grishams, Peter James are great, Micheal Connolly and Lee Child,(The Jack Reacher Books) are superb

This book should be compulsory reading for all.It is stunning,and makes me jealous of the author.Simply excellent.




But if you want a simple,flop out on the sunbed and read crime drama,try anything by Robert B Parker.

I too like the Peter James Roy Grace books. Easy read. Based in Brighton. John Grisham and Michael Crichton are always good.
