Oh man, thats such a shame. What a player, and what a character. There'll never be another like him.
I read his autobiography last year - absolutely compelling stuff, what a life that guy led. He was a complete and utter wanker at times, there's no getting away from that. But he at least recognised that fact and faced up to it.

A genuine legend. RIP.

We are only talking snooker now because of one man Alex Higgins' i honestly believe snooker would not be here now unless for The Hurricane.

In his heyday he actually made snooker more exciting, both when he was playing and even when sitting down; ISTR him getting into trouble for telling a very slow player (thorburn ?) to "get a f***ing shift on"

Good assessment. Theres no ignoring the demons in his charachter but I prefer to remember the good times .....and god when he was on top of his game he was awesome.

Certainly the bloke that got me hooked on snooker. Today's younger players may not realise it, but they probably owe their living to The Hurricane in many ways, as he put the sport on the front and back pages.

RIP.

The first live snooker I ever saw was Alex Higgins v Tony Knowles at the Wembley Masters in the 80s. It was mad. About 2,500 pissed up Irishmen from Kilburn cheering him on, and he won 5-4 with a 75 in the decider. People were getting ejected by stewards for bad behaviour. Incredible scenes.

Shame is was such a sad, lonely end but that's the price you pay for being a hell-raiser.

It was Higgins that got me in to watching snooker. What a character! RIP Alex Higgins and thanks for all the entertainment along the way.

A true legend. No needs for cheesy snooker-related puns this time:

REST In peace.
