Drogba Out of world cup

Drogba is a top bloke for the stuff he does away from the game. The diving is unfortunately just part of the modern game now at all levels. The World Cup will be poorer without him and Portugal now have less chance of getting knocked out in the first round.

Sven must feel like one of the unluckiest managers in world football. In 2002 he lost Gerrard and had a 75% fit Beckham, in 2006 he lost Owen and had a half fit Rooney and now it seems he's lost his star player!

This is potentially BAD news for us tho. We don't want Brazil to top their group assuming we win our grp and get to the semis we play the winner of Brazil / Ivorys grp - i'd rather it be Portugal or Ivory than Brazil - but i guess anything can happen and one man dont make a team...

(Thinking of everything from an England view im afraid...)
You have to beat the best whatever happens.

Couldnt of happened to a nicer player.

You want to see the best players in the world at the biggest football tournament in the world. Also, he has changed and doesn't dive much these days and is simply an awesome player. He will be missed at the World Cup no matter what opinions people have of him.

Deserves to finally get a proper injury, might teach him not to be the biggest dive and overreacter in the game

Dont believe this will make any difference to the group placings.

Brazil will win the group with or without a fully fit Drogba in the Ivory Coast team.

This.

I can't think of many other people who plough money back into their impoverished nation, having already been responsible for averting a civil war, saving thousands of lives.

I read recently (think it was on a BBC blog) that he has donated over 1 million pounds to build hopsitals back home.

If Torres was out injured, people would be saying it's a shame the best players in the World aren't in the World cup.

If Messi was out injured, people would be saying it's a shame the best players in the World aren't in the World cup.

If Ronaldo was out injured, (sensible) people would be saying it's a shame the best players in the World aren't in the World cup.

Drogba gets injured, people say "good".

Idiots.

Hope he's fit.

I think it was something like 3 million, which was the sum that he received from signing some sponsorship deal. Other than the donations he's also used his status to help stop civil war in the ivory coast. Not a twat.

Sven has said he's broken a bone "close to his elbow". In which case how can he possibly play in the World Cup? There's only three bones there, the radius and ulna in the forearm, and the humerus. Surely fracturing any one of these would write you off for a minimum of six weeks, as you'd have to have it immobilised.

It's not like a fractured hand where you can just put a protective casing on and carry on playing. Something is afoot here...maybe they're trying to avoid some kind of mass grieving in the Cote D'Ivoire, or the whole broken bone thing is a sham, Fergie-style, because I cannot see how Drogba can possibly be fit in time otherwise.

I broke my radial and ulner in my mid forearm recently and had to have them plated a week later as there was little chance of them setting correctly. The recovery since the op has been unbelievable and I could do almost anything except lift heavy weights within about a week. It sounds as if Drogba has had an op already, providing the fracture was minor, it will probably not stop him playing.

Really? The wonders of medical science, I did the same a few years back and spent six weeks in plaster from hand to shoulder.
