Why is it that tv and radio companies insist on thrusting retired players into the media?!! Some of these men can hardly string two words together.
This has been bugging me for a long time but the final straw came tonight listening to Darren Gough try and talk about the budget on Talksport. I used to like Gough as a cricketer but he is embarassing on the radio. He is so thick it is unbelievable that he is given a position to be able to talk about this on national radio. I know that if i listen to radio 4 i will get a far more educated view on the budget but I happen to like listening to Adrian Durham because although he sometime says controversial things to provoke a debate, he is a media professional and knows what he is doing on the radio and has a decent amount of intelligence. It irritates me that a lot of people who are trained professionals and would be a lot better to listen to on the radio are being kept off air by imbeciles like Gough, Micky Quinn and Stan Collymore. And dont get me started on that twunt Irani in the mornings!
Another load of shite that came out of Gough's mouth yesterday was that Leo Messi is over-rated and only does well in a poor league and that he would struggle in the premier league??!! Does he even watch football?! He shouldnt be allowed on national radio to spout that crap.
I like the idea of Talksport, a station that as the name suggests mainly talks about sport, so i'm reluctant to give up on it but listening to these idiots is making me turn it off. The station is always a better listen when the professional presenters like Hawksbee and Jacobs, Durham, Danny Kelly and Mark Saggers are talking and not Jason fuckin Cundy and Andy Townsend.
This doesnt just apply to radio, its the same on Sky. How did Jamie Redknapp get a job? Do they know that their main audience is men?! And Paul Merson, as unintentionally funny as he can be, should not be on air as he cannot speak correctly. And you can add Tony Cottee, Paul Walsh and a number of others to that list. Soccer Saturday is a good programme but it would be even better if they could employ former players you could understand.
This must be especially annoying to those who spend years training to work in the industry and who would be very good but cant get jobs because they are taken by these ignorant ex players.
Rant over. But I would be interested to hear if anyone else feels the same or if it is just me
