Been thinking a bit about this of late. Lots of people are in bands or solo artists and many go off and do other things before and after but some people were just destined to be great. Forget the Cowell behemoth, I'm talking about people that you just can't imagine as anything other than performers.
Freddie Mercury definitely had that in spades. Having seen Lady Gaga live, I'd say she's another. Nick Cave too, Grace Jones has got it by the bucketload. Ian Curtis - definitely whereas people like Kylie Minogue, David Gilmour, John Lydon don't. Paul McCartney doesn't have it for me whereas Lennon did. Damon Albarn doesn't, neither the Gallagher brothers. Michael Stipe has it, Lemmy has it, Kate Bush has it, Bobby Gillespie, Shaun Ryder, Morrissey and Alison Goldfrapp do.
But more than any other musician, I'd say for me the bloke with the mostest is Captain Beefheart. Absolutely driven in his pursuit for fame and fortune. Would most certainly have been in prison or a lunatic asylum otherwise.
What do you reckon?
