Get them an X-Box.
Then when it breaks down, they can go and kick a ball around the garden or the park as young kiddies should be doing.

Ooh good thinking Easy. Of course speaking as an Xbox360 "fanboi" I'm meant to be going mental now.

Seriously though. Wii + Mario Kart and you will be sorted for LIFE.

Yeah another shout for Wii.
Ours don't play it much (we had one pre kids), but that is their console of choice.

Bizarrely enough our 3 year old probably has more of a knack for it, than our 5 year old.

We are on Wii Fit+ quite a bit, and our 3 year old carries on when we've finished, she does actually hold a record for 1 event.

My 4-year old beats the older one hollow when it comes to games. He plays other people's and games on my PC and seems to get to stratospheric levels within minutes.

Nthing Wii + Mario Kart.

I dont play video games anymore but have recently bought my Dad a Wii + Wii Fit so he can try and get fit (not working) and my Mum a Nintendo DS (so she can use her brain on puzzle games instead of monging out in front of TV all night (limited success). It's weird how roles reverse.

But Wii's and DS's are really good family fun, especially the more competetive sports games on the Wii.

I also LOVE the downhill skiing on teh WiiFit. I OWN that.
I own the soccer headball.

Play it for a while on advanced then go back to beginner, you won't miss one.

Our youngest bitches the penguin/iceberg/fishing catching game, we just can't beat her, and we are competitive to the point of unhealthy.

Another vote for the Wii, plus you can add the BBC iPlayer to it and get telly on your telly, which is nice.

Well if you ever want to be beaten by a 3 year old not concentrating, your welcome to pop round.

That's fighting talk, that. I'm going to have to switch the thing on for the first time in weeks now to double check it. I think 110 was right [actually 116 maybe] - all four RED ones, anyway...

When you get humiliated by someone 3 foot tall and looking completely disinterested, don't come crying to me.

It's worse when a 3 year old beats you at bowling and then spends the rest of the day chanting "LOSER" and making the L sign :annoyed:

You chaps have probably put Gwylan off buying a Wii for life!

My kids themselves have made a firm vote for the Wii. I find it disconcerting that my 4-year-old knows the names Mario and Sonic when we don't have a games console in the house - when I was 4 we didn't even have a television and games to us meant snakes and ladders.. ...(grumble, goes into old fogey mode)

Thanks for all the advice - it seems like the kids' choice is in line with the consensus.
