Hotmail hacked

Anyone else had their Hotmail account hacked recently? I was using another email today and suddenly got an email from myself that I hadn't actually sent! I went to Hotmail and in my sent items were four emails sent from my account to my whole address book.

I changed the password and no more messages were sent. Luckily they were spam emails about Jimmy Choo handbags and other great offers and not anything to do with anything, ahem, dodgy I may usually receive emails about!

Sounds more like someone has dropped a trojan on your PC and when you logged in to hotmail they did too and abused the account.

I had this - but with some Google Adwords accounts - and was able to clean my PC with CounterSpy - I think there is a free version you can download but I'd strongly recommend it.

Yep, it sent a load of crap to everyone I'd ever emailed...also put my Out Of Office on and added a shitty signature to all my genuine emails until I realised.

Changed the password now & it seems to be ok.

I just assumed I'd been hacked but the trojan seems to be a likely culprit. I'm going to try and clean my system up now.

Cause some people don't like Google's data retention policies?

is MS's policy any better?

in fact why do you even worry about the data retention policy, every single mail server you send to and through has the potential to keep a copy of your data without you even knowing about it.
