The same Swiss that have a history of being "neutral" unless it involve people stashing ill gotten gains in their banks? I can see their point, they are worried about the Islamification of their country and see the minarets as being part of the foothold that could be gained, but by the same token I can also see the Human Rights lawyers salivating about the money that can be made from this. You give your rights away to Europe and you lose your own destiny...

They were talking about that this morning.
The NO campaign didn't feel they had a hope to win, but were hoping for enough votes to make the government question whether they should go ahead, regardless.

It is actually one per 100,000 and I would imagine that they are not the size of Camp Nou.

Difficult one really. Our European counterparts are taking a hardline stance against Muslim traditions and culture. Will we go the same way?

Like all European Governments, they completely under-estimate the true feelings of their people towards Islam.

exactly the sort of reason why Swiss haven't joined EU. dont agree with this, goes too far, but at least its their decision to make, without fear of a bureaucrat in Brussels saying non.

I thought the thread said that the Swiss were going to put a ban on MIDGETS !

That would be out of order. I like midgets. Typical of the Swiss to do something like that,.

Sitting on fences, nicking all the wealth and stuffing their fat little yodelling faces with chocolate and then banning PORG`S. Cant Europe stop them. Thats pissed me right off.

Hmm. I don't think the Swiss people have thought this through. What's to stop these nasty muslims meeting in buildings WITHOUT minarets?

It's a bit like if our government back in the 1970s/80s had tried to combat the IRA by banning balaclavas.

It's funny how i see this move by the Swiss authorities as fundamentally wrong and a denier of particular freedoms i thought we were entitled to, yet thoroughly support parts of the French judicial system who look to class the debt-inducing sci-fi beliefs shared by Travolta and little Tommy Cruise as illegal.

Surely this has all been set up and phrased the wrong way...If they phrased it purely as an issue of planning permission, who is going to object to banning middle-eastern style towers that rise above the buildings around them in largely historic towns/cities??

They opened up a can of worms by making this an issue about islamification.

they're not in the EU though, they've very cleverly negotiated trade deals and also fall into line on other things but I doubt that the 'democratic' EU can start issuing threats of sanctions etc like it did when austria elected the 'wrong' party.
