Possibly. He had made his Fulham debut by then, but he was still only 17.

Mullery's best goal...

[yt]3NLueHEhKTc[/yt]

To those who know the answer, don't say anything, but to those who don't - who was No.10 who crossed the ball...? Edit: Bollocks, his name is mentioned in comentary...

It's Barry Lloyd.

I had the sound off anyway.

I don't think that Mullery did play in that 1958 game - I'm sure that Carder and Harris would have recorded that fact.

I have my Carder and Harris to hand and there were two seasons where the average attendance exceeded Falmer capacity: 1977/78 and 1979/80. 1978/79 came in at just under - 22,074.
Thanks. Does go to prove that that era was a bit special in terms of our crowds and that the Falmer capacity is probably about right.

new reply, old thread....

Hi, I'm new and this thread is from last year...so maybe no-one will see this. But, in response to the fan called Peter Deacon, who has been mentioned, I became a friend of his, we met during his illness. And yes, it's very tragic that he died so young of kidney disease. But heartening that on this day that I remember him so too do others.

I have got the programme for the 58 game. Mullery was too young to play then, but a certain Johnny Haynes did. Anyone want me to post a picture of it ?

Was also at the Chelsea FA Cup game 1967 - 35,000. Programme for that one was red for some reason. Went to Stamford Bridge for the replay -well over 55,000 for that one.

My gf bought this programme off ebay for a present for someone. Any way some notable stuff from it. The programme is dated saturday, january 28, 1978 and we are about to play Notts County in the fa cup 4th round. The highest gate at home so far has been v saints 32,979 (Wow!) other notable home numbers, 25,199 v Luton, 27,170 v Bolton, 28,208 v Palace, 22,647 v Mansfield. These attendances are huge, i didn't realise we were once this big (and will be again), but it goes to show if we had the numbers back then in the old second division then we could potentially almost fill falmer. The squad list is as follows- steele, tiler, cattlin, williams, horton, rollings, lawrenson, potts, ward, mellor, fell, o'sullivan, piper, ruggiero, towner, winstanley, clark, maybank. Ward is the leading scorer so far with 15 goals. Jimmy Sirrel is the manager of the visitors. Just thought i'd share this
Will fill falmer in the championship easy:thumbsup:

It sounds like you're mixing up a few games there. Clark did score against Charlton but it was in April in 1978/79 and we won 2-0. That was before a gate of 30,859 - our 19th highest attendance. We won 3-0 at the Valley just before Christmas but Poskett scored all three.

The next time we played Charlton was in 83/84 when we won 7-0 - Clark had long gone by then.

And the record attendance at the Goldstone was 36,747 against Fulham on 27 December 1958 - that was discussed on a thread the other day.
Am i right in thinking that charlton thrashing was live on the bbc and was a record live score until recently?

Lets not forget the thousands that where locked out many times:thumbsup:

Hi ruby. I knew peter from school days (he was younger than me) and used to see him at the Goldstone where he was always cheerful.

I think 'Granny Wettherwick' was also an old school mate. Hopefully peter will be remembered at Falmer.

No, the game was definitely not live.

Also, I think you are getting confused with Brighton beating York City 7-2 in 1976-77 - at the time of the match in 1976 I think the record number of goals by a team in a game featured on Match of the Day was seven.

Happy days for years I couldn't understand why anyone would have Goat em Brighton on a flag. PS What happened to the Football League Review?

PS What happened to the Football League Review?

Ran from the mid 60s till 1975 I think.

It died out as more and more clubs started producing programmes with more information, moving towards more of a matchday magazine.

I bloody LOVED the Football League Review (or League Football as it was known in the final couple of years).

It's a shame that programmes haven't really moved on from the 'matchday magazine' paradigm.

I think that we played in red that day (red shirt with white sleeves) and Chelsea were in all blue; maybe the reason for the red programme.
