A dull appointment like Cotterill, Adkins, Gannon or Southgate won't instantly get bums back on seats at Withdean, that's for sure...

Improved results will though. Not saying that any those will achieve this, but appointing someone just because of the name is not the way to select a new manager.

I agree with S'Hampton Seagull and want to defend Cotterill.

When he played for us, he stated that he wanted to stay here and sign for us, but the board at the time did not have the money available to sign him from Wimbledon. However, since then, Cotterill has never been short of voicing his support, not only for the stadium application, but for the club on the pitch as well.

In the times he's come down here as a manager, he's always received a warm welcome and he's also applied for the manager's job on a couple of occasions.

I think that levelling the dour football tag at him is also unfair...He took Cheltenham Town from what's now Conference South to League 1 football and then had a short spell at Stoke and then Burnley.

He was unlucky as assistant at Sunderland who were, at the time, on their way back to footballing mediocrity.

Finally if you look at his win ratio for games, then 40% of games won isn't bad at all.

I agree that Cotterill wouldn't be my first choice of manager. However, we could do alot worse with him and a decent number 2 working with him.

Brighton don't need encouragement to 'hoof' it any more than we already do! I recall Cotterill on his loan spell and quite liked him; not convinced as a Brighton Manager, in terms of aspirations about how we want to play football in the medium/longterm.

Trouble is, whenever anyone mentions a name, there are 20 posts stating that he is not wanted here. Not everyone is going to be pleased with the appointment, that's for sure.

I cant decide among the candidates, i think its because they are all relatively similar and i believe that the strength of a good backroom team is the key part of this employment process.

Everyone seems up for Poyet though... can I ask why when his managerial experience amounts to erm, NOTHING?

Him and Ramos didn't exactly set the world alight at Sperms either did they.

I have asked this several times on here and not had any proper replies. The guy was no.2 at Leeds and there have been suggestions that he was the football 'brains' behind Wise - but I have no idea how true that is, or if anyone else ACTUALLY knows, or is just guessing. Apart from that, I'm not aware of any managerial experience, so I don't know why people think he would be good - but then again, I don't know that he'd be bad.

Same for all recent ex-players that have been mentioned, e.g. Solskaer or Sherringham - I have no idea what people are basing their opinions on when it comes to these un-tried guys at managerial level.
