Went on a chaps' day out there on Friday. Beautiful day, probably my favourite of the summer so far. Lovely pubs, lovely view of the ships and boats, lovely quay, lovely real ale, lovely fish and chips overlooking the dock. When the sun shines it's ace. Just make sure you drink enough to fall asleep on the train back cos it's a boring journey, stops everywhere

Yeah a nice mix really, Spinnaker tower is good on a clear day. Yuo also have the shops whihc are good for a bargain or two and only 2 minutes walk from the historic dockyard which is well worth a visit.

Add that to load sof restaurants and bars and you have a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

It's nice, but I would say there's nothing massively unique about it. When the sun shines, most places by the coast are nice.

The Quay itself is nothing much to write home about. After it opened they were worried they were not getting the high-spending customers they planned and instead were getting people going down for a burger on the front.

You are close to the harbour front though - follow the signed footpath - and there you can have a pint at the Still & West and watch the goings on at the harbour entrance. Well worth a visit.

I thought it was pretty shit personally, not much better than Brighton marina, though I was angry at getting charged £3 for a coke when my friends who weren't driving got charged £2 for Stella.

Lived in Pompey as a student for 3 years. It's pretty good if you haven't been there for ages and fancy a walk around some shops. A few oppurtunities for some bargains but don't expect too much.

I'd say it's worth an afternoon out definately Bit like Brighton Marina with more shops and restaurants to be honest...

I'd like to go for a visit - probably have to go by myself though - Zef isn't what you'd call happy to go shopping...

Second that...I have been to a fair few Chinese buffet type restaurants and that was one of the best!

Full of shoplifting foreigners. Water Margin is nasty - use Nandos instead. Cinema is quite good, but don't buy anything inside. Nice and close to the train station, although the parking is really reasonable, especially if you combine it with Vue as you get a discount. If it is sunny, it's great. As for bargains, slightly chav central mixed with surfer/beach stuff. Not as great value as they make it out to be.

As said, there is plenty of other stuff to do.

A little bit of give and take, and you should be ok.

The shopping is very concentrated with food, beer, boats and Spinnaker tower, all round the edge.

As a non shopper myself, GFQ has lots more distractions than up and down a high street.

How much is it for a trip up that Spinnaker Tower thing ?

And how can I be sure Fred DINEAGE won't be there on the day I visit ?

Definitely better than Brighton Marina as there’s more choice of restaurants / shops and fairly easy walk to see old Portsmouth or the Victory and station / parking are close by. Is the outside scenic elevator on the Spinnaker Tower working yet- last time I was there it was still closed even though the Tower has been open a few years.

I used to work there and I once saw Gordon Strachan being dragged round the shops by his missus. Not sure how that helps you decide if you should visit or not though.
