Now then. I always rubbished people who said John Terry bottled it with that penalty miss in Moscow. He didn't bottle it, he slipped, it could have happened to anyone.

After yesterday's Community Shield, I've changed my mind. When it went to penalties, surely he should have stepped up and taken Chelsea's first penalty and smashed it in, to exorcise the ghost? Instead he seemed to hide at the back and didn't take one at all. Not what you would expect from an England captain.

Not that I really care as I don't care about the Community Shield, Chelsea, Man Utd or anything really.

SO THERE.

I know. He still should have taken one though, he's the captain and should have done it to make a statement.

Why would he put himself forward, if he doesn't feel confident enough to take one surely it would be hugely foolish to put his name forward? forget about f***ing 'statements' the best penalty takers should step up, not a player who just want's to make a 'statement'
Terry is a perfect example for kids and a perfect example to set for children.

Well if the England Captain who earns £150,000K a week is not confident enough to take a penalty in a friendly then we have a serious problem. And we wonder why we cant win the World Cup.

Guarantee that if that game was the champions league final he would have taken one. It was a nothing match really.

Why should he be more confident about it if he is paid £150k?

But JT isn't one of Chelsea's penalty takers, he only took a penalty in Moscow because Drogba had been sent off. He didn't need to make a statement, Chelsea had a game to win and they had to put the best penalty takers in there not just someone who wanted to exercise a ghost.

Because if he is payed that amount of money he is clearly very good at his job, no? Surely that should bring confidence. I don't earn that in a year but I'm pretty confident in my job, if they paid me that sort of money I'd think I was the best in the world at it.

But taking penalties isn't typically part of his job as a defender. He isn't employed to scored goals, he's employed tyo stop his opponents scoring them. Any he scores is a bonus.

He is paid that much because of his defence abilities, and because of his link to chelsea, the history and link to the club he brings to the team. He is also paid that much because he plays for a club that can afford silly wages.

Wrong - for so many reasons. He is a thug, he shows no respect to the officials, uses his 'celebrity' status in the wrong way and constantly moans when decisions go against him.
