Worthing
"HELL hath no fury like a man scorned". Did departing Albion midfielder Tommy Fraser's outburst against former chairman Dick Knight really cause that much surprise?
All credit to the journalist who took the time and trouble to ring Fraser up and extract the quotes – perhaps the result of a slow news day – but it wasn't like he was re-inventing the wheel. Of all the criticisms levelled at Knight, none of them werADVERTISEMENTe something that hadn't been touched on before – aside from the player's exit from the club.

I'm made no secret of the fact that I felt Fraser deserved another contract. Clearly this was not the view of Russell Slade and, while regrettably I have to agree with a lot of the points that Fraser made, I would strongly refute the fact that it was Knight who made the decision for him to leave, rather than Slade.

As I understand it, Knight's tenure as Albion chairman was all but over when Tommy was still pulling on a blue and white shirt. So to say he still wielded that much influence is very wide of the mark.

Slade is very much his own man. A case in point is the saga of the pre-season friendly with Worthing. The Rebels even went as far as speaking to new Albion chairman Tony Bloom about getting the game on. But he backed his manager, saying that it was pre-season policy that he had laid down and even the club chairman cannot change it.

As for Fraser and Knight, it's a sad ending to their footballing relationship. And while it certainly sells papers, which is the nature of the business, perhaps in hindsight and with a few more years on the clock, Tommy will eventually wish he'd kept his own counsel, and got on with his football career.

Like John Sullivan at Millwall, Tommy now has an opportunity at Port Vale to prove the Albion wrong, and do his talking on the pitch is, in the long run, best for all concerned.

Pretty accurate there.

Also there's an article putting the friendly against Worthing not going ahead, in to conext. Last season they had a total of 8,000 through the gates. 2,000 would be expected for the Albion friendly so this would go a long way in helping the club out

Has to be said that the thread started by Harty between when he was released and before he was brought back again took a totally different attitude to Fraser. it was obvious he hadn't been happy for a while before he was released but I didn't detect any bitterness or recriminations from his post just a sadness that his career here appeared to have come to an end on a low note for him.

Doh...wrong Harty :dunce:

"The SAGA" of the Worthing friendly? Slade made a pre-season policy Bloom stuck by it and we wont be playing them. Big deal, I am sorry I understand that it would help them out but RS and TB are taking the club seriously and there is no room for sentiment.

As for Tommy Fraser, he tried hard and had passion but there is no way he is good enough to be in a top 6 side (which is clearly Bloom's aim for THIS season, he said so). TF has shown he is not the kind of personality we want at the club. Immature comment from a bitter young man.

I find it odd that Fraser would even dare make those comments bearing in mind this is a player who verbally attacked his own fans and subjected a ballboy to a foul-mouthed bollocking in front of us all for throwing the ball back to an opposition player too quickly - leading to us conceding a goal. I've never forgotten that. It was disgusting and indicative of the same hot-headdedness that led to his comments this week.

"The SAGA" of the Worthing friendly?

I think what Harty is referring to their is the fact that both sides say different things about why the friendly was played for the last many years

Albion officials (Insider) say that it was part of the deal of letting the Albion host pre-season friendlies

Worthing officials say it was not

When you look at the fact that last season the reserves moved to Lewes and yet their was still a pre-season friendly, suggests to me that it was Slade's decision this year that meant it was not played, and Worthings side of the arguement rings more true to me than what Insider said. Also suggests that potentially it was Knight himself who kept it going last season when reserves were at Lewes so credit to him if he did.

Russell is his own man and thats his decision which I respect and understand. Silver Lining is that without Pook and Bloor (mainly Pook), Worthing will finally take pre-season seriously, with games against Bognor and Lewes :D to look forward to. Maybe next year Russell might lighten up and we'll get the friendly back, but who knows??

The most interesting point here is the point made about the Worthing friendly.

Worthing approached Tony Bloom and he said sorry my manager has decided on the pre season schedule so I can't change it.

Somehow I don't think Dick Knight would have done the same thing.

Finally we have a professional running the club who is leaving the football to the manager.

Harty hasn't posted on NSC for a long long time matey!!!

I was talking about Gary Hart's post about this time last year, as I just read the thread title, not the actual post, and assumed we were talking about him and not the broadcaster Harty. Posting in a hurry can make you look a twat, as I keep finding out....

After looking back on my earlier post and talking to my dad, who knows the Insider well, I have concluded that i was wrong about pre-season and that it was an agreement between the clubs for us hosting the reserves, and that by the time Hollis had thrown albion out of woodside after Horsham became tennants it was too late for them to back out of the friendly. Also believe we still could have kpet albion, as Bromley have Cray and themselves and reserve side for another club I believe

Also taking into account that the official I spoke to almost certainly got his information from Morty Hollis himself, it wouldn't suprise me that Morty told him what he wanted the official to believe, which is what the official told me!!

However I still stick by my beliefs that there was no harm in the fixture going ahead, even if it was just a reserve side sent down, as it means we lose out on £10-15,000, which to a non-league club which has suffered monetary issues in the past few years, is quite a decent amount!!

How on earth do you earn £10-15k from a few hundred people at a friendly at Woodside Road??

Over 2,500, nearer 3, attending paying between £9-£10 adults, £5 children/oaps.
Couple of quid for a programme, and although I'm only 14 so it doesn't apply to me I understand the bar prices 'changed' on that day each year.

There's your 10 or so grand.

Crap Town
RS wants friendlies against opposition the team will expect to play against on a weekly basis , there is no point playing at 75% when the season starts in a few weeks and stamina and fitness levels need to be at 100%

I don't give a f*** about Worthing.....and I care even less because Harty bangs on and on about it in such a parochial and self-serving manner.

So how come you've offered my dad money to write in your fanzine?

he can't be that parochial and self serving?

I remember Jimmy Hill on MoTD berating a ball-boy somewhere for handing it back to Liverpool (the away team) who then scored, in an FA Cup tie I do believe. Years ago - silly then, silly now.

I thought all the talk was about modern schools "dumbing down" ? I'm glad to see that that is not the case after all and that we are producing such erudite and financially aware 14 year olds.

It's also nice to see that NSC is not blocked in the school computer room too as a bonus !
