Schumaker on Batiston-worst foul ever ?

Worst foul and probably the worst refereeing decision ever. Goal-kick to Germany and no physio allowed on at first.

Watched the game to the bitter end and went to bed in tears. Still unable to support a German team whoever they're playing. Schumacher, Hrubesch, Breitner - hated them all.

Most bent refereeing I've ever seen and the most cynical foul as well.

It was really less of a foul, more GBH that happened to take place on a footy pitch.

Schumacher's reaction after the match summed him up - he offered to pay for Battiston to have his teeth repaired :tosser:

I recall that schumaker didn't even get booked and batiston was in hospital for a week or so but eventually invited schumaker to wedding.

Possibly not the worst tackle ever, but by far the most high profile really bad one. Certainly the worst failure to produce an instant red card by any referee, any time, anywhere. Well, I expect the bloke is sitting pretty these days, happily working through the contents of his brown envelope......
That referee was really a disgrace, though.

What unfortunately never gets mentioned is quite the extent to which he'd completely lost the plot long before then in that match; there was absolutely nothing cynical or calculated about it, as people have said above: he'd have bitten the head off his grandmother if she'd come near him at the time, never mind his own team-mates, and never mind the opposition.

There's been a fine tradition of lunatic German goalkeepers ever since, like Lehmann or certainly the fantastisch but also profoundly-deranged Olli Kahn - before then, they all seem very nice: Sepp Maier or BERND Trautmann, say.

And, just as the former wild animal Kahn is now a rather cuddly TV pundit, Schumacher and Battiston made up copiously afterwards, something which again maybe detracts from a working up a good old froth about it.

Whiteside on Ramsay is the one I hate most, they blatently took him out of the game!
