Is this a good area to live in. One friend of mine in Brighton reckoned there were drug issues.

Anyone got any low down?

I would not recommend it. I used to live in Waters Edge (the next development along) and that was much nice although without the gym etc.

Not sure about drugs (although a mate who lived there was permanelty stoned) but parking has become a nightmare especially if you have guests and there do seem to be a fair few undesirables there.

Edit - I mean emerald quay, not the beach area in general.

I used to live there it is fine. Emerald Quay was built 21 years ago, when it was near completion we were hit by a housing crash, bit like at the moment, what ended up happening was because a lot of the flats remained un-sold, the developper rented out a lot of them to DSSS, i think this has always tarred Emerald Quay with a certain reputation.

Uncle C, Shoreham Beach is man made, it is actually higher than the main land of Shoreham Town Centre, so the beach will flood last, you have no worries.

Not in my lifetime and I lived there from 1970 until 1989. The only part of the Shoreham beach that was prone to flooding was the area near the river between the A259 and the footbridge, which is why most of the houses there have nothing but a garage at ground floor level.

I remember the area where Emerald Quay is now as being Watercraft - where they made armed patrol boats for middle-east navies. I don't think Emerald Quay was finished when I moved off to Hove.

Jrmeag1 - on a pedantic point Shoreham Beach isn't man-made, it's a shingle spit across the mouth of the river adur that was created naturally by a process known as long shore drift. Boring, but true!

Shoreham Beach is known locally as "Swingers Beach"....anyone with Pampus Grass in their front garden is bound to be a Swinger (from what I've heard!)

As for the Quay...its alright, the Waterside Pub nearby is OK.
