The Large One
Who's Next?
A heady mix of Transfer Deadline day, plus Britain bunking off work means NSC is teetering.
How long before it goes splat?
How long before it goes splat?
NSC hasn't crashed for bloody ages - years probably.
There are a few modifications I made to the board software that 'protects' the board under extreme stress and these have been successful during busier spells.
(That's fate well and truly tempted to this particular party, I'm sure)
It's been close to 500 for most of the day. Whether a visitor is a member or a guest - they still take up the same resources.
Which is why one of the modifications I've applied is to stop guests being able to view some things when the board is ultra-busy.
I'd rather NSC go a wee bit slowly than fail completely.
As for having it fast all the time, even during these busy spots, it's a conundrum. Today, coincidentally enough, the hosting bill for the next year arrived - it's around £940. The server that this money buys does us fine 99.5% of the time. I could spend more, probably in the region of £1500 or so, to have a server that will be faster during these peak times but most of the time that extra money will be wasted. And with advertising drying up, I'm reluctant to spend more than we have to.

Who are all these people?
It always seems to grind to a halt midway through the 2nd half of matches and the post about us scoring is 5 minutes out of date by the time it hits the screen. Didn't NSC crash last year for several days (or was it 2007) and we all had to piss off over to NSP to get our daily fix ?I'd rather NSC go a wee bit slowly than fail completely.
