He likes to use "I" if it's a positive thing, and hide behind "the board" for negative/unpopular things.
As chairman he does make the offer. But he makes the offer on behalf of the club, on behalf of the board. The money may or may not come from Dick Knight originally, but it is the club's money. The money may or may not have come from the blooms, or some other mystery source that is also financing the stadium.
The club are making the offer. Dick Knight happens to be the one delivering the offer (and taking credit for it).
That quote does nothing to prove he has money to give the club.

Does any of that really matter?
I don't care who actually puts the money into the club - once they've given it to the club and it gets spent on players, it's the club's money.
I also don't care if DK says 'I' or 'We'. Is it really that important? In the end, regardless of who says what, the club is buying the players and the only judgement to be made is, when we see them play, are they good enough?
