I totally defend anyone's right to boo.

On the other hand, I think it is totally pointless except in that it might make the booer feel better. I would be very surprised if it made the slightest difference to any player's performance, for better or worse.

I think it very pompous to justify booing by saying that you can improve a player's performance by doing so.

What a very patronising attitude if you don't mind me saying. So booing players somehow teaches them to play better and encourages them? I think we'll agree to disagree.

We'll also disagree on booing somehow improves the team.

We'll also disagree on fans changing allegiance or coming week in and week out.

We'll also disagree on fans booing because they think it's clever.

We'll also disagree on whether booing works or that it has a positive effect.

We'll also disagree that people such as WW would ever give Hawkins credit even if he played blinders for the next 10 games.

Apart from that I think we've got a general consensus.

You're gonna accuse me of being patronising and post that? Ok...

I've not really been here long enough or seen enough of WW's posts to gather any idea of if he is likely to give credit where it's due or not, but I don't disagree that there are some individuals who are pessimistic, expect the worse and will always look at the negatives instead of the positives, but I don't think booing a bad performance automatically makes you a pessimist or someone who never gives due credit.

I seem to recall that when Mr Butters arrived he was on the receiving end of some "comments" about his ability.

Turned it round so much that when he retired he was a legend..........

Booing during a game is foolish in the extreme as it is totally counter-productive, booing after the game is just about acceptable if the performance has been shite. Not a fan of booing myself but then I won't cheer and make a load of noise if the performance is bad which is probably as bad as booing.

As much as I will argue the fans right to boo, I'm like you. I think it stems from my brother always yelling at me and thumping me to shut be up when ever I cheered and sang as a young kid. I've been conditioned to sit their quietly, cheer when we score, applaud a particularly fine moment or substitution. Celebrate a win, and walk out muttering if we lose.
